"rastertoescpii failed" workaround
Have been using a epson workforce 630 for about 9 months, attached via ethernet without problems. Suddenly last week, I started getting
printer-state-message="/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoesc pII.app/Contents/MacOS/rastertoescpII failed"
any time I tried to print. I could manage the printer, I could scan from the printer, and I could fax, but I could not print with one exception: the test print function of the epson driver worked. The only way I could print to this printer was to directly attach it via a USB port.
After working with both apple tech support, and epson tech support... and after deleting library files associated with epson, and reinstalling the epson drivers many times, both from the epson support web site, and from the apple update site, to no avail, I decided to try a third party driver which solved my problem.
I downloaded and installed the gutenprint-5.2.8-pre1 package from the following web site:
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
and then modified my printer definition to use that driver, which solved my printing problem.
After downloading and installing the gutenprint drivers, go to System Preferences, Print and Scan, select your printer, select Options & Supplies, then select Driver, and then select the appropriate gutenprint driver for your printer in the Print Using dialog box. In my case it was the "Epson Workforce 630 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.8-pre1" driver.
Still do not know exactly what changed on my system to cause the problem, but the problem showed up shortly after installing the Mac OS X 10.7.4 Supplemental Update 1.0.
