1st gen iPad and iOS 6

I'm a first gen iPad user. I don't understand why Apple is completely neglecting us. I can understand holding off on the cooler stuff for the newer iPads but we are the people who helped the iPad turn into what it has. Atleast give us and updated email, safari and stores. Why not? Androids have had those features for awhile. Just give us the second best thing out their. Don't let your three year old product fall behind the pack of android tablets. We paid to much for that. This is an Apple product, people respect that. When people ask us if they should buy an iPad, we don't want to have to say "buy an Android, they care about you even when your device is three years old, Apple forgot about us."

i dont think you get it... when an app updates to ios6 it won't function on your device anymore... it will work on your iphone 4, but... it just makes for more headaches... more work for the user and isnt apple all about making things easier.

I don't know how that issue will be addressed when IOS-6 is eventually released and neither do you. Why are you whining about something that has not happened and might not ever happen?

Apple is not here. Apple does not respond here. It is a user to user tech forum, mostly for users to assist other users who are encountering tech problems, not a place to moan and groan about Apple's company decisions about how it runs its business. In fact you agreed not to do that when you opened your account.

A community is what the users make it. Apple can't make this a welcoming community. Apple can only delete and ban abusive users, as well as those who continually break the ToU and post items critical of Apple's decisions. There are on line communities far less inviting than this one. It is what your presence helps make it. Are you making it inviting and friendly?

I did not moan or groan about anything in any of my posts here. I have been respectful in all of my posts, as any impartial person viewing them would admit. I cannot say that I have received the same in return. I never once suggested Apple replied in these forums, but I am routinely accused of that (as you have once more).

I think that you misunderstand my comment. It was in reference to this statement;

It is an interesting take on "support community", but it must work for Apple.

Any impartial person viewing your comment would understand that you believe that Apple has more participation here than it does. I was restating that it doesn't.

I did not moan or groan about anything in any of my posts here.

I think that impartial folks viewing your comments would believe that you are, as well as criticizing Apple's business and product decisions. Again, you agreed not to do so when your opened your account.

Sorry, no tone involved, just statements of facts.

It is also part of the agreement to be polite and offer constructive comments. I have received many replies which are in violation of that. I have not made noise about it, until now that you have taken an accusatory tone with me.

It was not my intention to criticize Apple, but rather express surprise at the type of replies I have received over the past few days. However, I cannot control the way you may interpret that.

Again, no tone. Just staying the facts. You are criticizing Apple's business and product decisions in this thread and you agreed not to do that when you opened the account. In fact, it appears that the only reason that you are posting is to criticize those decisions made by Apple. If that is not the case, why have you visited us?

I don't know what you are getting at. This is the first time that anyone has accused me of violating the user agreement. I came to this particular section of the community to discuss technical reasons that iPad first generation was being left out of iOS6. It is hard to understand how I can be seen as a serious violator when I have politely endured countless vitriloic responses from others.

Apple wants you TO BUY A NEW iPad 3. Hope that helps.

That's a business reason, not a technical reason. That may, or may not, have been the primary reason, but we arrived at a plausible hardware reason.

The discussion eventually focused on the combination of the RAM, processor, and screen size as an explanation why iPhone 3GS could receive it, while iPad first generation was being left behind. We don't know for sure, but it is a good theory and the discussion arrived at that via many sharing information.

I believe that I am being nothing but the epitome of polite. Sorry if you feel otherwise. I am not calling anyone names. I am not making ad hominem attacks. I am carrying on a civil conversation of the facts as I see them having played out here in this thread. I am not referring to anything from as far back as 2009. I this thread I feel he has questioned Apple's decision. That's my opinion and I am welcome to draw it.

OCICBW...

YMMV

There are no technical reasons to discuss. Apple has not stated why Apple took that decision. So no user here knows why, nor can they then discuss why. Anything discussed by any of us would be speculation, which also violates the ToU.

A discussion regarding the technical reasons that iPad first generation might be unable to run iOS6 is not speculation on Apple's decisions.

"Discussions of Apple policies or procedures or speculation on Apple decisions."

It is speculation on why the hardware is not fast enough, powerful enough, or otherwise capable enough to run the new iOS. I am not trying to argue semantics here. While the discussion may have veered across the line at points, the intention of my involvement was truly about discussing the technical reasons that one device could run it while another could not. It is no more speculation about Apple's decisions than a discussion about why a particular OS X upgrade will not run on an older hardware specification.

Continuing to go down this path with you is probably off-topic for this particular thread, which is itself a violation of the agreement. As such, I am not going to be drawn along further. If there is another venue in which we can discuss this, I will happily do so.
