Aperture and iPhoto can't connect to Photostream

I think it's happened since maybe the most recent OSX upgrade, but now I seem unable to connect to Photostream with either iPhoto or Aperture on my MacBook Air. Oddly, with the same software and settings, my old MacBook Pro 17" has no trouble connecting. What could be the issue? Whenever I try to enable Photostream, I get the "connecting..." dialog for a few seconds, then "Aperture (or iPhoto) is unable to connect to Photostream."

This thread has grown old, but I recently encountered the same exact problem described by John Reed6, and I was able to resolve it by (1) restarting my machine, (2) completely logging out of iCloud (system preferences > icloud), then (3) logging back in to iCloud (same location) and making sure photo stream was checked, then (4) launching iPhoto, (5) attempting to reconnect connect to photo stream via iPhoto, twice. The second time I clicked the "connect to photostream" button in iphoto, the connection was established.

My suspicion is that I was successfull due to a change on the icloud servers that has happened since the earlier posts here, but nontheless, establishing a fresh connection between my MBP 10.8.2 and the iCloud server seemed to do the trick.

FWIW I fixed mine when I realised I'd probably downloaded iPhoto using an AppleID from the App Store but logged into iCloud with a different AppleID. I deleted iPhoto and it's related files (but not the iPhoto Library) using CleanApp, entered the App Store with my usual AppleID and downloaded iPhoto again. Once the App Store, the downloaded iPhoto and iCloud logins were the same iPhoto Stream worked again.
