Where is the 17" new macbook Pro??
Where is the 17" new macbook Pro??
That's true, and with elaborate enough measuring conditions you might even detect it.
If Apple will be making retina iMacs, which are screen sizes between 21 and 27 inches, they might as well do a 17-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display like the other retina macbook pros, and also macbook air will be retina it seems.
- latest quad core processors
- dual dedicated graphics
- DDR4 RAM
- Expresscard slot
- two audio jacks to the left of express card slot like in previous generations
- louder speakers, and improved speaker quality
I will tell apple this, you all do the same please.
I can't agree, sorry.
Reviving a poor selling line does not make sense, it sold badly before and there is no indication that it will do any better second time around. Apple's resources are better spent elsewhere.
Pent up demand for the 17" could make a significant difference, at least in the short term. It seems at least conceivable that a year or two of brisk sales could eventuate precisely because of the combination of the long fast & pent up demand on the one hand, and whatever impressive things Apple does with the new version (wooing new fans) on the other. But of course one can't know for sure if it never is brought back. I'd forgive them even all the extra expenses I'm undertaking to prolong the life of my 17" if they brought it back. I'm not sure I wouldn't buy 2. Put one in techno cryosurgical stasis for when needed. ;-) But meantime I'm following your advice & trying to upgrade my 17" to be as functional as humanly possible for as long as humanly possible.
We'll have to disagree, the development and marketing costs of a new product against maybe a year or two of sales is not my idea of a good idea.
The upgrades to the computer could conceivably broaden its appeal--lighter, longer battery life, more powerful processor, solid state drive, Retina display, etc.-- or not. But it isn't impossible. Because I don't see any 17" on the market that has all the benefits of my 17" MacBook Pro, I'll keep improving it as long as I can. But all the improvement effort moves one to develop a sort of "laundry list" of features one hopes someday show up again in the way that Apple does so well. Those improvements could arrest the gaze of people who didn't look before... But I'm in the market for anybody's ideas how to extend the life and improve the function of the old 17" MacBook Pro until something better (for my purposes) comes along...
Hi, I really appreciate your advice on upgrading the RAM and installing an SSD. I'm a bit of a novice, although I did replace the hard drive on my wife's MacBook. Could you give me a recommendation on the proper model hard drive and SSD? Here's my key info for my 17" MacBook Pro that I love dearly.
Thanks!!

What are you even doing on this thread? What is it to you if they revive the 17" line? I.e. why do you even argue against it?

None of your business old chap.
Then your opinion is worthless.
I'm in the same boat - interested in hearing more about your contention that hidpi mode in retina isn't acceptable (since it appears that's what i'll have to settle for).

As is yours, when you get around to expressing it.
I was a huge Apple fan.
I still own a ton of their products.
But I'm on a 2008 MBP 17 and will never buy another notebook from them until they come out with a larger (17,18,19) notebook.
Period.
Why?
Apple has abandoned it's creative customer base.
Why didn't the MacBook Pro 17" sell?
It didn't have a side number keypad that so many professionals use daily.
Plenty of room.
Period.
Rather than adapt and continue to reward those creative folks (writers, photographers, architects, artists, song writers etc.) that launched Apple in the first place, Apple threw in the towel.
Pitiful.
Period.
If Apple produced a 19" MacBook Pro with very thin lip around the display, it would be 1/4" larger on all sides than a MBP17, fit in my Brenthaven bag, be about the same weight as my current 2008 MBP17 and it would sell like nobody's business, as long as it had a side number keypad for power users... CPA's, CEO's, CFO's, Business owners... you know... that small segment of our population (several million) that can afford a 4,000-5,000 price tag.
But what do I know.
I agree completely
