panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff800064ba7b): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\"

I was recently installing updates on my MacBook Pro and during the installation process it came up with, "An unexpected error occurred, none of the updates were installed," and I was given the option of restarting my computer. I pressed restart and let it sit for a while, after approximately five minutes of nothing happening to restart the computer I turned it off at the power button. Upon turning it on again in the middle of the screen it came up with "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power Button until it turns off, then press the power button again. I've done this numerous times and I have encountered the same outcome each time. On the left hand side of the screen is as follows:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff800064ba7b): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI'.\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1699.26.8/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:15 04

That's great! I'm still at work, I started updates after the re-install last night so I need to go home and finish. I heard from another discussion that apple has pulled the Thunderbold Update so no one else should be having this issue anymore. Next time I'll wait a few days after an update has been published by apple.

sorry to bother you but i have problem with:

7. Type in

/Volumes/Internal\ HDD/usr/sbin/installer -pkg /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ 10.7.4\ Combined\ UpdatePAckageName.pkg -target /Volumes/Internal\ HDD

NOTE: You will replace the values with whatever the DMG file was mounted on and at the end - most likely you will have /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD (this is your main drive).

i get no such file or directory... maybe i'm doing it wrong PLS hlp....

Djogon, I read your solution. I haven't tried it yet because I am not familiar with the Terminal Utilities commands such as /Volumes/DVD-OR-EXTERNAL-DRIVE-WHERE-DMG-IS (can you give an example in your case). Pardon me as I am not a tech guy. Nevertheless, I will download the file and try your solution after I have tried the earlier option doesn't work.

Thanks for the suggestion

Hi Gkadjo,

I discovered that my Mac setup was a bit different. Here's my setup:

- I bought the MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6.8. Later through software update, I upgraded to OS Lion

After the thunderbolt update problem, I tried to use your solution by updating the patch via terminal but couldn't get it work. I mentioned in earlier post in page 2 regarding this

No choice but I have to adopt BWGS solution to reinstall the Mac OS from the installation disc came with the MacBook Pro. The installation completed and I can get into the system.

However, I found that many applications that got updated when installed the OS Lion don't work anymore eg iTunes, Safari, iCal, iPhoto etc. An error pop up saying the application doesn't work with this version of the OS. I think during the installaiton of OS Lion, the application files had been updated to work with higher OS version already.

What should i do now? Upgrade the OS to Lion or delete the application and download the version compatible with 10.6.8 again? Please advice. Thanks.
