HI,
One option.
You can sign up for an iCloud ID.
When asked, it offer you whether you want to set it up via an existing Apple ID or not.
This way an existing Apple ID remains but you also get an new email that you can create.
When I created mine they were issuing @me.com names (Taken over from MobileMe)
More recently I have had an email linking an @iCloud.com name to the same overall Account.
To state it another way.
I had/have and Apple ID based on a old Dial-up email address I had/have (I say Had and Have as I can Fetch mail via Broadband but cannot Send unless I dial-up).
Anyhow, I used this to create and link to an iCloud ID, which gave me an @me.com name.
I can use either of these Emails as the "Name" part of my ID and use the same Password.
They can both access iCloud via Web Browser or from the Mac's settings (System Preferences > iCloud).
They can both access my posting account here at Apple Support Communities.
They both can access my iTunes account (And App store seeing that is the same pot of Money/Upsent gift Card total).
The @iCloud.com addition now gives me three "names" to the account.
As Mail (for Me) the @me.com and @iCloud.com works as one account - people can send to either and I will get it with whichever name I set up in the Mail App. As I said earlier my Original Dial-up account remains a separate external to Apple email address.
For AIM (in Messages and iChat 6) the @me.com and @iCloud .com names works as two separate AIM valid Names)
(They do not work in iChat 5 (or Earlier) due to changes in the way Apple makes iChat 6 and Messages check the password reading by AIM by being logged in to me.com as well.)
