Kernel Panic on 2012 MacBook Pro

I recently purchased a mid-2012 MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2.3 GHz, non-retina) and I have been receiving Kernel Panic error messages. The screen goes black with white text in multiple languages warning me to shut down my computer and the computer freezes.

I have called Apple customer service multiple times. We tried multiple things, including wipe the hard drive and reinstall OS X Lion, but I still get Kernel Panics.

One thing I did notice in the "send to Apple" report is that it mentions Google Chrome. It seems whenever I do get a Kernel Panic I am using Chrome.

So, my question is, has anyone else gotten a Kernel Panic who owns the new MacBook Pro?

Here are the applications I have installed (besides the default Apple ones):

  • Coda 2
  • Final Cut Pro X
  • Twitter
  • Google Chrome

Right now, as suggested by the second Apple associate, I uninstalled Google Chrome, to see if that was the cause. She says that it could be related to that or from a software update (which I doubt considering I have yet to install any updates since I reinstalled Lion).

Anyone else have the same issue? Thank you for your help.

I also bought a new macbook pro (mid 2012, not retina just 13") this Tuesday. My problem is that it freezes. I have to turn it off from the power button. I only have google chrome and skype installed. I read that many people are having issues of this style with their new MBP. I'm really worried. I hope Apple releases an update that fixes this problem.

Good luck!

I had the exact same problem if not worse. I didn't received any kernel panics, it just freezes. The keyboard and mouse just went unresponsive and I had to restart the computer holding the power bottom. It also happened twice since I got the new Macbook Pro (w/o retina) last Thursday both when I was using chrome. I am thinking about returning or exchanging it.

I'm having the same problem, and it's gotten worse in the last few months. I'm using a 2010 Macbook Pro 15" running 10.6.8 with a 2.53 GHz i5 and 4 GB RAM. I took it to the shop about 2 months ago after the hard drive corrupted after a number of kernel panics. They couldn't retrieve everything off of it, but I got the most crucial stuff. They then had to replace the drive and replaced the logic board.

Lesson learned: if you're getting frequent kernel panics, buy an external drive, set Time Machine up and back that sucker up every day. It may also be causing bad corruption on your HD.

I got it back and it worked fine for about a month, then the kernel panics came on hard and heavy again. I took it back and they ran a battery of stress tests on it and couldn't make it panic. There was some mild corruption on the HD that they fixed as well. I took it home and within 24 hours I got my first kernel panic. Black screen. Boom!

I'm now going through a process of elimination to figure out where the problem is and my best guess is that it's Chrome conflicting with a video driver that's specific to the Macbook. Not everyone gets this, but it seems to be common enough that perhaps there's one more common driver or component that not everyone is running which added to the mix brings the whole house of cards down. I'm now using Firefox and I'm hoping this will fix the problem. I'll post back in a few days and let you all know.

Hi,

I had the same issue with my MBP 2011. Everytime after waking up from the sleep I got the Kernel Panic. Isolated all the hardware and nothing changed.

I had the RAMs replaced in the Mac Store and thought maybe this is the reason but since stopped using Google Chrome everything seems alright for the last 24 hours.

I was thinking maybe the issue can be related to one of the extensions. I am using the followings:

- Add to Amazon Wish List 1.0.0.8

- Feedly xt 9.3.426

- Google +1 Button 1.1.2.424

- Google Chrome to Phone Extension 2.3.1

- Google+ Notification 1.0.1.619

- Greplin 1.7.21

- Klout (beta) 1.5

- Nokia Maps 3D browser plugin 5.5.1.0

- XML Tree 1.9.1.9

Let me know if you people shares any extension with me.

I have not posted in this forum for a while because I haven't gotten a kernel panic. I figured that the problem may have been resolved either with a new release of Chrome or one of the software updates from Apple. However, I just got another kernel panic.

This time (and I think every other time) I had Pandora open to listen to music. I also had a couple other tabs open for browsing. When closing a tab that was in full-screen, the animation froze half way and the music began to repeatily loop (like a broken record).

I just sent a report to the Google Chrome team, so I am hoping it's something they can fix.
