MacBook Pro w/ Retina External Display Issues

Has anyone else noticed with the MacBook Pro w/ Retina, that it does not wake external monitors connected to through a dvi adapter?

Although I certainly do like apple products, I wouldnt have gotten a computer right now if I didnt desperately need one. And yes, I posted that mainly so Apple is aware of the issue, and so future users can benifit from those of us who needed a new computer. I am sure there are others who ran out and bought it becuase they could but that was not my situation... maybe next time you will think twice before preguessing people's situations.

I'm postguessing the game that all computer makers play nowadays, hardware and software. In order to get the products out the door and the cash flowing in faster, by reducing the testing and using the early customers as guinea pigs. And no, you did not HAVE to buy a Mac with a totally new technology, instead of choosing from a tried and tested non-Retina platform that's fully upgradeable and costs less. But the display was irresistible, bugs be darned

So, schedule a new visit to the Geniuses at the Bar (hope they've all taken their Retina Training Courses by now) and have them work the kinks out of the new model for you.

Fair point, however the purchase I made is one I wanted to be happy with for at least 3 years, as I am a law student who will not be buying a new computer soon. The screen certainly was a part of it, but more important for me was the size and weight difference, without the loss of ports that comes with the Air. I also dont intend to upgrade internal parts because I do not need to do high power work that will require more ram, and also because I have more than enough external storage that I am accostumed to using.

I bought it at a store in NYC and I was lucky enough to have got the last one available yesterday. They seem to be getting around 10 of them a day, try going in at 9 AM if you can you might have luck.

That's a cruel and nasty reply. Not typical of Apple customers. You offer no solutions or help but a vile and bitter response.

Actually, I found his response quite typical of current-state Apple customers: elitist. Responses such as his are the very reason why Apple supporters are treated like pariahs...that, and those people who will never say a bad word about clearly questionable decisions Apple makes.

Yes, I'm experiencing this issue as well. Using a mini displayport to DVI cable. My monitor will eventually return to life, but usually takes like 5-10 minutes. Disconnecting and reconnecting the cable doesn't do anything for me. I tried 2 different monitors, both had the same problem (both were Dell 24" monitors, but different model numbers.) It doesn't do this all the time, but I did notice that it seems to be exacerbated by having something running full screen on the external monitor when it goes to sleep (diablo 3, which was originally what I thought was causing the problem, but youtube videos apparently have the same effect.)

Super annoying. 😟

Do you have the graphics card set to Internal, using gfxCardStatus? If so, an external display will not work. I had the same issue, and the second I switched to Discrete, the external display started working.

It occasionally stops working when waking from sleep though, but unplugging and reinserting the dvi adapter fixes that issue.
