MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Just read this :

"LG Display has begun mass production of a super thin 4-inch display, with much speculation that it will be for Apple’s next iPhone"

Oh dear, I was eagerly awaiting the iPhone 5 to replace my 4s. Don't think I am going to be an early adopter this time, I will wait for the feedback from first owners before parting with my money 😉

Better run and hide because LG is a major force in the movement to 4K HDTV's. 😝

I found the problem 3 weeks later after I started to use it and I asked for replacement. The bad thing is I got another LG screen and now after two weeks useage, the issue happened agan and guess what I got from Apple store? I was told "go home, and wait for new fimrware". Is that a joke??? Anyway, for how long should I wait? they just don't know.....What???

This is my first apple product for myself and I was stupid because I added an apple care plan. At the time everyone can ask for the replacement of the defective screen, I was asked to wait at home.

So, this is apple.

There's been more then one post with someone from Apple suggesting that something can be done software wise, I don't think its likely, still it would be interesting to know if anyone knows more on this rumor.

Got my replacement today. Guess what, its a LG again, got IR again, though not so hard, an it got deep scratches in the surface. And at last, the keyboard had a less nice pressure point. I am so disappointed... So all in all, it got even worse...

I just got my 1st replacement - it took only a week to get it, since I reported it to Apple, most of this was delivery (China-Poland). Thank God it's a Samsung (week 34th) and the screen looks very good. The down side is that the body has very minor chips here and there, like little dots on the aluminium. But I think that it's too risky to send it back in hope of getting another good screen just because of cosmetic imperfections?

Yeah, i would accept the scratches (if they are not so bad), but the rest?! As i said, the keyboard pressure point is much less comfortable. This baffled me most. I called a local store near my home and asked them what to do. They said i can come by and change it if the next delivery is also BS. Problem is, I need my notebook for my study and can´t be withot for even a day 😟

uhm.. that seems a joke. Or bad displays or scratches on the body...

It would be interesting to see a photo of those chips.

My will to buy one is decreasing day after day.

Yeah, also noticed some creaking when i press a bit harder the bottom case (for example when lifiting the laptop with one hand). Wonder if they all have it?

Couple of people mentioned creaking, but there should be none of that if the screws are snug and mating properly. Additionally that chipping on the bottom left side of the display is unacceptable IMHO, just should never see stuff like that. That could have been easily reworked in a shop before the unit was assembled.

So I tried returning and exchanging one more time and got yet another with an LG display (that's four straight). I returned it before I even left the store. I was up front with the store manager and told him exactly what the situation was and he let me do it. It stinks, but I will do without until they work out the problem. Who knows, maybe they will really be able to fix it completely with a firmware update (I doubt it).

@Tadziak: I know exactly what you mean about the keyboard. The first one I had with the IR problem had a keyboard that felt very different from all the others. The keyboard felt mushy and did not feel very good to type on. The keys just didn't feel springy and clicky enough and it felt very sloppy to type on instead of crisp. It's hard to describe but hopefully people understand what I mean..

MacBook Pro with Retina display. 2.7ghz/16/768.

LG display, made in week26.

I've had this machine for 7 weeks as of today. I use it every day for too many hours a day (10 hrs+) for 5 days a week. I code iPhone & iPad apps using Xcode and create the graphics using Photoshop and Aperture.

Trying several checkerboard and text tests and looking for IR on gray backgrounds of varying shades. Each test spanning from 10 to 20 minutes. And I've been really looking.

As of yet there are no IR issues with my particular machine. Seems perfect. And very speedy!

Was wondering if there were any relationship between the displays having IR issues and the configuration of the machine (cpu speed, ssd and memory size)? My thought is no but as of yet my machine has been running perfectly.

I wonder what the percentage of LG displays have the IR issue.
