MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

That's why I think I keep my creaking/slightly 'chiped' macbook for the screen sake. It's really nice, bright, white, very vibrant colors and I just don't want to experience replacing 100 times because of the LG screen horror.

From what I read it's much easier to have any creaking of the body fixed at Genius/Apple service than playing screen lottery.

My second rMBP had a black line (scratch?) on next to the trackpad:

Photo is from an angle. Looking straight from above it was much more obvious. I wouldn't mind things like this as wear and tear but on a new $2500 laptop? Naah.

That in addition to the persistence and the bright column on the right edge of display. Hopefully defective parts (including displays with image persistence) are not being re-introduced back into supply chain.

Thats my opinion also, kinda confusing when I see retinafan post :every single person that has had the opportunity to compare both LG and Samsung have said that their Samsung screen is brighter and more vibrant than the LG screen and they don't have to turn the brightness level up as high on the Samsung.

I go the to stores and see every MBPr under bright lights have great contrast, vibrant colors, and more then sufficient brightness. Has any online site conducted a study yet of the different white/black/contrast levels against the Samsung/LG panels for the MBPr? For example similar to AnandTech http://www.anandtech.com/show/6023/the-nextgen-macbook-pro-with-retina-display-r eview/5

I went in with the IR problem (LG screen) on Tuesday, and I was given a repair ticket for the screen. I got a call a couple of hours ago saying that Apple Corp. is working on a software fix/update. They will not replace my screen until they hear from Apple Corp. The words used were something like ........they wanna use the software to pull the hardware into running within it's specs. They've acknowledged that other machines are showing the same problem. They agree that changing the screen might not fix the problem (assuming I get another LG screen).

I would be out of reach of any Apple Store after 3rd Sep, and I told them that I'm willing to wait a week for a software upgrade and then I'd like to take chance and get my screen replaced (hoping for a perfect Samsung screen). But the store people are not going to promise anything until they hear back from higher authorities.

If Apple indeed fixes the problem with a firmware upgrade - then it'd be great. If not, and they decide to replace the screen, I might not be within the reach of any Apple store for 3 months. Being a student of photography, I'll have to use my MBP daily for my classes --- getting it shipped for repairs would be very troublesome.

Where did you go to? Do you think they speaking the truth or are they trying to cover the problem? i mean it could be that they are lying. i spoke to a senior worker apple today (support phone) in denmark, the person was swedish and they didnt know anything about the problem until they googled for it.

also they didnt know that lg and samsung are producers and said there is no way to know when you replace or repaire

I posted last night about a solution to this issue to johns1 and it is up to you to try it or not. If you are near and can go into a Apple Store, find a manager that will listen and who is friendly. Ask him or her to please do a Ripley on some of the units they have in stock and they can find you a Retina that has a Samsung display. Ripley is a in house system that Apple has that tells them the manufacturer of the major components within any computer they have in stock by entering the serial number of that unit. This saves a big hassle for them and for you by knowing what your'e getting before you pay for it. Most people do not know about this but I can tell you it is real. They really don't want people knowing about this because everyone would be asking. This is not some made up story. I have done this more than one time and I did it today. I can tell you that I had a dozen Retinas checked today and out of the 12 units only three of them were Samsung panels. The particular model that was checked was the mid. Feel free to reply and I will do all I can to help you to get it right.

Most of my work is done in Linux (yes, it is possible to get Linux running well on this machine with a little work) and the IR issue shows up the same there as it does in OS X. It also shows up in Windows.

So, I did returned my second retina LG with screen issue. I was wondering if we can put aside possible software (drivers) root cause by testing this machine with Boot Camp in Windows environement. Any one already performed test like that?

I went to the Apple Store in Lexington, KY. I do not know if they are lying or not. Hopefully not. I did try to persuade them to replace my screen if no firmware upgrade is offered within a week. They say they can't do anything until they here back from higher authorities.

I'm at a loss. I'd be glad if anyone else knowing about a firmware upgrade share his/her story.
