MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Please please please do not say it's livable or you are getting used to it. Apple wants you to be satisfied with what you bought because you deserve it. You waited long and paid a lot of money.

I know it's hard to go through all again but I'm bagging you to replace it. What ever it is, you shouldn't feel like this.

Please set an appointment with G bar and tell them you need an Advance Replacement.

Thanks and good luck.

To what end? If the replacements are having problems as well I am wasting the time and resources of both Apple and myself.

I understand you are unhappy, and frankly I am too, but until the problem is fixed, there is absolutely no point in doing anything but calling Apple Care and making a formal complaint. I know you want to make a statement, but Apple knows as well as you do that swapping out the screen won't make one bit of difference right now.

My AppleCare is good for 3 years. So as soon as the problem seems to be fixed, I'll take my MBPr in for service.

FYI, as far as I can tell, the problem seems ubiquitous enough that it doesn't seem to be a batch problem, but a technological limitation. LCD ghosting isn't a new problem in the universe and it's not a permenent burn-in either. It happens because the LCD crystals become attuned to a specific wavelenth of light. By shrinking those crystals for the retina display, they are probably more likely to become attuned more quickly. You can fix those crystals by putting up a solid white or black display for a little bit (white works better).

Also, crystals usually become less likely to "stick" the more they are used... which means that if you sit it out for a bit, the ghosting problem may very well fix itself permanently. If the ghosting doesn't stop after about a month, then by all means use that AppleCare, tell them it's destroying your productivity, and demand a replacement.

I'm unhappy because of you. I have a good one so as a lot of people out there. You should have one too. I never said go and change the screen! Who does that to the one-month old machine. Repair is for at least one or two year old machine not the one you just bought it. I said go and replace the whole thing. Like the others. They all replaced their own and you don't see them here anymore. It means it worked!

I don't know what is it that you are trying to convince yourself to keep it but I just said that for your own good. You can use it if you are happy with it.

Best of luck.

If what you're saying is true then it's NOT a widespread problem and only affects some displays. If that's the case, I'll make an Apple Store appointment asap and get it swapped out.

This is certainly giving me flashbacks to the iPad 2 light bleed problem (I had to exchange it 3 times and each time the Apple employees got more and more offputting). And that's why I'd rather wait until I know I can exchange for a fix rather than play music exchanges.

But I'll take your advice and give it a shot.

Mine is from week 29 and it shows faint burn-in after a image stays static for more than 15 mins. At this point it's difficult for me to decide whether it's worth it to get an exchange. I don't think Apple has yet to fix this issue.

I still have a week to my 14-day deadline. Might try to get an exchange late next week to see if the newer ones are any better.

My replacement rMBP is on its way (just left China by the look of it). I will be sure to post back.

I still have not worked out my build date/week, if someone can advise on that it would be much appreciated. I can then furnish the forum with the appropriate information.

I have tried the serial number website but it seems to not be able to tell me build week...
