Hey guys... just a report.
I've received my MBPr earlier today and I don't see any issue at all with the screen. Whites are white, the contrast isn't an issue and there doesn't seem to be any image retention putting a webpage or something with a bright white background like an email open on the desktop with a solid grey background. I only left it there for ~10 minutes at a time so far however, but it seems OK to me.
Custom 2.6/16/512 and it happens to have an LG screen. I'll be keeping a very close eye on it but so far I don't notice a single flaw and I'm VERY picky. I'll be sure to find one soon if there is one. The clarity and colour balance on this thing is awesome btw. It's annoying going back to my Thunderbolt display in a way - because the colours on it seem a bit 'cold' or blueish compared to the Retina screen.
good luck. doesnt seem like you're taking yours back.
if you look close enough whites are actually yellow 😉
Well, I don't know that I'm not going to exchange this one. I do need it to use as well at this point so I'm not exactly wanting to return it if I don't have to. I'm just keeping a close eye on it - and I hate to tell you, but I'm a web developer and have gone through countless LCD panels and I'm telling you: the whites are white on this screen and I have two screens to compare it with.
A dell u2410, and an Apple Thunderbolt display. All IPS panels, and this retina display is actually the best out-of-the-box display of the 3 of them. Not yellow at all. So, perhaps I just got lucky and got a really good one but I'm for sure watching it like a hawk within the 14 day direct exchange period and I will see to it that I have another one ordered and sent out before I exchange this one.
p.s - Apple "hates" me already since I've been through 3 Cinema displays and 3 iPhone 4s, so trust me. I'm picky... I was actually dreading receiving this laptop and not being able to use it right away because of finding another QC issue.
