Man - you guys on this thread are 'freaking me out' thinking I MUST replace this darn thing since it's an LG panel while I still have the 14day no-questions-asked period.

Yeah I kindof feel the same. I have an LG and it's amazing. So beautiful. I don't see anything yet. However, I've been following Jerbz, and he had the same kind of LG panel and loved it as well. But then he found out that it was a crappy panel.

just noticed this tonight. got one of the first ones on the day of announcement.

it is pretty noticable.

unfortunately the closest Genius Bar is 365 miles away (was over 2000... so i guess that is a bit better.) but still... a Genius Bar appointment will be more than a little bit of a hassle.

being all SSD-style i can't even easily swap drives to a new one. hate to clone the drive then wipe it first.

i just looked up my serial number from an earlier page of this post to determine build time :

really hope they can mail me a new one without me having to send this one in first. or having to go to the Genius Bar 6+ hours away.

well I just recieved mine yesterday. it is a week 31 , 2.6/16/512... with LG screen

my initial impression on opening it was that is has a very slightly warm look to it. meaning the white is ever so slightly yellowish. compared to my 08 mbp I would say that thats not really the case as it's whiter than my 08 mbp. but next to my iphone 4 I would say my iphone is brighter and more white.

the actual screen on it's own looks great BUT with all thats going on I am very worried the problems may arrise. I have had no IR issues so far and have tried testing it a few times. If I get any issues I will report back. I am going to apple store today and going to take this with me and take a look at the ones on display and compare them. btw. this thing is so sexy LOL

I got my LG screen replaced after a month when the image retention got irritating. I called Apple and got a case ID, went to a local Apple tech and could easily show them the problem. They said they'll replace the screen, which in case of rMBP means replacing the whole upper part of the machine… no glue involved folks!

Now with a new screen, LG again, and with the same problem, only milder, like when it started previously… but now I know that it can, and probably will, get worse over time. So I guess I'll be switching the screen every month or so until I get a decent one.

Someone should make an online IR-tester: a big black text on a white background and a timer that turns it all middle gray. Plus collect some data...

that would be nice. btw I never assumed any glue would be involved (if you watched any of the tear downs or even wwdc you should know that it's not a repairable piece, but it's good u could confirm this.) after repair did fit and finish feel the same?

Try to take pics with a DSLR so you can post your findings

Yes, fits as perfect as the original. Brightness and colors are more or less the same too.

Exact same deal here. I just returned my MBA 13" yesterday. At first I thought it was ok, but I started noticing my eyes getting tired easily. I didn't really think too much of the whole MBA Samsung vs LG thing and at first I didn't notice differences. But after a week of trying to use it, I updated my wife's (Samsung) to ML, and it became obvious that th LG screen was inferior. The Samsung screen was bright and clear, and whites were white. The LG screen was dim, whites were darker and greyish, and it was really distracting to use. So back it went. I have been considering the rMBA, but I am waiting to see how the whole IR issue plays out.

Is it now possible to check the type of screen while it's still on its way, or before opening the package?

I am waiting at the moment for my third replacement model, so I thought I maybe can already check if its (hopefully) a Samsung.

There's no way, as Apple will not what screen was used. It's a 50% chance, I think.

yes you can check by calling apple with your serial number on your invoice. that's what i did.
