MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Guys i have a week 30 rMBP with Samsung screen. IR is only present if i leave it there with max brightness for more than 1 hour, even so it was very subtle and hardly noticeable (only the edges of the windows are slightly visible), so i don't know if it's classified as faulty or perfect.

Unrelated: I would like to voice out my concerns about apple's deteriorating built quality, as my 'delete' and 'return' keys on my keyboard now produces an annoying squeaking sound whenever i press on it. Called applecare and they asked me to bring it to a service center as they can't do anything about it if it's a hardware issue. Really frustrated with all these problems plagueing me as a laptop with such a high price tag shouldn't be faulty in any way. I also noticed significant slowdowns in bootup and shut down times after installing photoshop and few other applications plus upgrading to ML, now bootup takes close to 30s and shut down 20+. There were also other problems which i assume is software related going on in my computer. Tell me if you guys experienced similar issues.

Hi DCNY69 and all

I would like to point out to everyone that going through the replacement process with Apple is not an easy thing , most of their engineers just look surprised and and reply : We never heard about this issue before

Right........

There are few things that can be done.

. First log a call with the apple technical support , and try to speak to 2nd or 3rd line support

. Get a case ref and point the engineers to check this support page , the thread number is : 4034848

. once that has been confirmed , take few pictures with an iphone or camera , take video all kind of stuff.

. book a time with apple store and stress the computer 2-3 days before , don't shut down the laptop when it happens just take it as it is to the genious bar ..

I hope this will help some of you , I got my laptop replaced yesterday , Samsung panel and things seems much better than before. brightness with samsung is fantastic.

using 40 % on samsung LCD = 100 % with LG

cheers

Samsung panel with 50% brightness ,,,,,,,Stunning ........

My pleasure

Stress testing ,

to run many applications or one particular test against the issue , for example

if you have bad hard drives you stress test them by having lots of read/write io

in our instance , we need to stress the graphics for the machine to work harder for it to ghost …..normally i run virtual machines or graphic testing like heaven (see above picture)

I have a day one rMBP and while I did see the issue the 1st time I used it, I guess I changed the wallpaper and didn't notice it again until today when I made my wallpaper a solid color.

Image retention is severe and I also seem to have small white patches that have now shown up. I'll be contacting Apple tomorrow to see what can be done.

Well ,I have managed to get this issue couple of times now to prove it to Apple so I can give my advice

-Graphic Auto switching needs to be turned on. ( the issue occurs when the graphics switch between nvidia to Intel ) so basically you need to run something heavy for it to switch to nvidia then back to intel

- AC powered because you need to leave it for a long time

- I found virutal machines are the best ( just install virtualbox www.virtualbox.org ) run few windows instances or linux(with gnome )

- Photoshop CS 5

- heaven after full benchmark
