My USB thumb drive won't update the amount of free space. It's constantly saying it is full, even if I delete the files on it.
It's the same on all of the thumb drives I use.
It there a "refresh" button - to get it to update the amount of data on it?
I transfer large video files between an iMac and PC computer.
Any suggestions?

If you delete files on the thumb drive, they'll go into the trash on the thumb drive, and thus will take the same amount of space (I think).
Solution:
After you delete the files, and with the thumb drive still plugged-in, empty the trash. That should recover the space. Then you can finally eject the thumb drive.
If you were to eject the thumb drive and then try to empty the trash, it won't work, because the computer can't find the trash on the thumb drive itself.

Apple chose to do this so people can still look at what files they threw in the trashbin. On the other hand, Windows operating systems, you have to recover whatever file from the trashbin before you can even preview it.
Any reason as to why it is like this now? I don't recall ever having to do this before Mavericks and the space was still freed up. It doesn't make sense to me to add an extra step to the process...
If ur a macbook user you can clean the flashdrive!
Plug in your flash drive > Search "Disk Utility" > click your falshdrive on the left hand > on the top after "first aid" click the "erase button".
Then either select erase free space or just erase your whole flashdrive.
