Convert .VOB file to edit in FCPX

Can anyone please suggest the best way to convert a .vob file to edit in Final Cut Pro X? I read that Mpeg Streamclip was the business, but when I load the .vob file, it appears only as a sound file with no video. The .vob is definately a video file. I also get a message about Apple Quicktime Mpeg-2 playback component is not installed. It says I have to buy this part, but I haven't read anything about needing this. Maybe I do.

Besides "how", also what is the best format to convert to for editing in FCPX?

Thanks!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

ok, wait, got it to work. this is ridiculous.

After opening the Utility MPEG2 Component M. Lion.app and AFTER buying the Quicktime MPEG2 component from apple (you need to do a google search to find it. MPEG Streamclip links to a site on apples page that does not have the component), you need to open the Utililty MPEG2 Component M. Lion app, then when it tells you to open the QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg, open it and go through the steps until it tells you that you can not install it on this version of OS X. Once you get to that point DO NOT CLOSE OUT OF THE INSTALL OF TEH QUICKTIMEMPEG2.DMG PROCESS. Go back to the prompt from the Utility MPEG2 Component M. Lion app and click OK on it. It will then tell you the component is installed. THEN you can close out of everything and it should work.

Wow, what a work-around. At least it's working on Mavericks now. That was a complete cluster-cuss

Brad..you are one HOT DOG!!

Thanks man! I was going slightly mad until I found your workaround.

The Quicktime Mpeg2 component for Apple is here: http://www.apple.com/hk/shop/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-componen t-for-mac-os-x

Well.. at least that's the one in the Hong Kong Store..

After purchasing that and failing to install it, I went back to the failure pop-up from the Streamclip component and clicked OK. Worked. Just as you described! Thanks heaps!

Yay!
