Experience in delivery times for retina MBP so far?

So I put in an order for a retina Macbook Pro on June 17 and as we all know the estimated time to ship is 3-4 weeks right now.

For those of you who also ordered online, have you received yours yet? Curious to see if the estimated time to ship is accurate or if they're just managing expectations.

Yes, I'm impatient!

My original rMBP came with UPS (expedited, but I did not choose the option or pay for it).

Shipped on 6th. Arrived on 13th (afternoon).

My replacement rMBP comes with FedEx (AppleCare guys ordered priority).

Shipped on Monday 20th. Expected delivery is tomorrow morning at 10.

So it seems that expedited in fact does have an impact, even disregarding the weekend.

After much searching around for answers regarding when it will reach me, I found a link where you could track your order completely from the origin till when its going to reach you on which day 🙂 I know Apple tracking service should be doing this, but somehow after searching around over the web I found this. Hope this helps everyone. Just put in your Delivery Reference Number and you will be one step closer to your rMBP. Let me know your 'Actual' delivery dates. 🙂

Turns out IR on this one is much worse than the last one. I don't even need a checkerboard or special testing. Just moved a Desktop icon to trash and for the next 10 minutes I could still see the ghost of the icon on the display. I was not looking for it, it was bad enough to notice very easily.

On a gray background, a pair of horizontal lines start from 1/3 from the bottom of the screen and go from right edge to the left edge, fading as they get closer to left.

The other interesting feature of this display is a half-inch column on the right edge with a darker color than the rest of the screen. This is visible on a wider color range.

Add all of that to the scratch/discoloration next to trackpad and you got Apple QA figured. Sigh...

At least one more week of waiting.

Some rMBP are being shipped with either Samsung or LG displays. The LG displays seem to be faulty, giving people image retention problems...the thing that is not right is you don't know what you are going to get when you order your rMBP, it's all basically luck of the draw...

Oh I see now so that explains why people keep getting them and returning them till they get the one they want?😐

Also how can you tell what screen you have (unless ovbiously you get the problem)

@rrahimi

That seems disappointing 😐 I would not be happy with that on a 300 dollar netbook...spengding 10 times that I would expect perfection 😮

Then again I guess most people don't have the problem right ? As we only hear from the people with problems on here so we get a false representation , like the people without a problem dont post here so we dont hear them in full number.

It's hard to tell how widespread the problem is.

There are issues that are obvious, let's say laptop shutting down randmly or battery running out in 15 minutes instead of 5 hours. Everyone detects and reports those.

There are issues that are obvious, but the average user considers the normal mode of operation.

- No sound from iPhone speaker? I thought those are only for calls. I use headphones for everything. (personal experience)

- Dead pixel? What's that? I don't care for it. It was always there. I can still watch my movies.

- Wifi dropping? I'll just reconnect. Not a problem. Only happens 3 or 4 times a day.

Then there are more subtle ones like IR. Majority of users won't notice. Most of those who do notice, assume it is normal operation and not too disruptive. Fraction of users will report to Apple, friends, other forums. Tiny fraction of those who report it end up in this forum.

Point is, for relatively subtle issues like IR, they are probably severely underreported.

That's a good point you have there.

I remember my Mother had a 10-year old Windows computer. I don't have time to list all the problems as I have to go out in an hour (joke), however my Mother thought this was all normal and just got along, didn't bother telling anyone, once I gave her my old MacBook Air she had never seen anything like it and would now never go back to her old machine

Finally got an update from my reseller,

Hi Jamie

Just wanted to give you an update on your computer you ordered from TRG, I have been informed by Apple that your computer is in manufacturing and this normally means we get a shipped today notification with 24-48 hours, with that being said your computer should arrive at TRG early next week.

My next update to you will with the shipping waybill# so you can track your computer to TRG
