RECOVERING STOLEN MACBOOK PRO

Hi, is there a way i can track my stolen laptop through my Apple ID usage, instead of programs (like Find My Mac)?

My mac is not registered in my Apple Userd Products, and i have no iCloud on it nor any programs like MobileMe / Find My Mac, only Apple ID Usage.... through which i connect my iPod and iPhone,....

Can someone help me please?? No, I have no serial number either :-(

No, since you didn't even register your computer with Apple they have no way of associating it with a particular AppleID. You can't even use it to recover your computer's serial number. And Apple doesn't provide that kind of service anyway.

Reporting a lost or stolen Apple product - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2526 - "... Apple does not have a process to track or flag lost or stolen product..."

Serial number and Apple ID are useless when it comes to tracking. Not sure why you didn't enable Find my Mac, but without it, it can't be tracked. Apple really doesn't have a system, nor should they need to, for recovering stolen items. Find my Mac is designed to recover a lost computer.

Anyway, the only thing left to do would be to fill out a police report, but even that would be hard without the serial number. If you still have the box or the receipt, it should be on there.

Can you find your receipt? Apple may have emailed you your receipt, maybe check your email. Really *****. I think Apple should do more to help find stolen laptops. They do not keep track of serial numbers. I went in to report my stolen. They had no idea what to do. As if this never happens.. They did not know how to disable ITunes. As of rt now, any woman could walk into Apple with my comp and get it services with AppleCare. Teriffic. I might not be an Apple fan any longer.

Of course I know other manufacuters do not help with stolen property but I expect Apple to have a higher standard. They have always gone above and beyond for me. Not this time at all, they had no idea how to help me period. They could not help me disable Itunes, they did not suggest find my mac or cancelling AppleCare, friends had to tell me to do this. If Apple isn't different than other manufacuters, there's no reason I should get another one.

Ok here's the update: since i didnt have any serial, mac address or find my mac, During the changing of all my passwords i was in DropBox website and found out that they kept track of the last connection in each device I had installed DropBox. After a few hours I noticed that a new IP address was shown in that list, it was the guy using my laptop who didn't know how to format it and that I had dripbox installed. I searche online

With that IP ADDRESS (he used it at least 3 times) and foun out hich carrier he was using for internet connection. Through a contact inside the carrier I found all the infos about this guy. Sent the police over there and they found my laptop!!

If police in my country was more efficient, they would have found that info fast, but I had to do it myself; and they still haven't cought him since he had a stolen laptop and declared he didnt know anything. Plus he posted on facebook a photo of my comp the same day or the day after the robbery...!

Anyways, hope dropbox can help more users like this!

Carlos, you need to go to dropbox.com from a computer. Then you go to your settings and you'll find the list of devices you have connected to dropbox. If someone else is using your mac with internet, and u have it connected, you'll see the last connection time and the IP address of the user. With that ip address u go online to search for it, typing "find ip address" or similar. it will show you the carrier o that internet connection. It shows a location but thats not reliable. When u know the carrier you need someone who works for that carrier whocan give u more info about that ip address. In my case police wasnt an option since in my country doesnt work so well. I had a friend who gave me that info.

Good luck!
