RECOVERING STOLEN MACBOOK PRO

Hi, is there a way i can track my stolen laptop through my Apple ID usage, instead of programs (like Find My Mac)?

My mac is not registered in my Apple Userd Products, and i have no iCloud on it nor any programs like MobileMe / Find My Mac, only Apple ID Usage.... through which i connect my iPod and iPhone,....

Hello, my brothers macbook was stolen but he was stupid and messed with the icloud settings making so I cant use find my mac, Anyways I did install Mackeeper and it sent me its location using coordinance. We contacted the police but they havent done ANYTHING. All they asked was if I wanted someone to go with me to the apartment... HA unbelievable. Any other suggestions?

Hi, it happened same as me as I explained above, police won't do anything. Either you pay someone from police to go there directly, otherwise I don't know, I could recover my laptop using the police from the side (couse the whole normal police process isn't enough) but still i never recovered all the stolen jewelry and other stuff they robbed, I guess they were afraid the thief was their neighbours or something else, shady anyways.

Yeah it's really shady, we also know who stole it. I have the kids name and everything. He has also been arrested for drug possession right after it happened. He most likely sold it to someone for some more drugs, I could really care less about that MacBook but it had thousands of pictures on it and its just creepy thinking someone has been basically looking threw them like where I live and stuff. The only thing I can think of is to goto it's location but that's putting me in danger why the **** the police can't do it is beyond me. I guess they'd rather deal with the case if it was more intense like maybe trying to retrieve it myself and get shot? Their stupid sending me out to get it, I've already bought a new one screw it he can have it.

dropbox keeps track of the ip adress that your computere uses to sync with dropbox and that ip adress corresponds with a physical adress.

I must warn you that most residential adresses are dynamic so that residence gets the IP adress refreshed betweeen a few hours and 1 day (so I was told by Time Warner Cable). If you are lucky they'll sign in to a business IP and those are usually static.

1. dropbox.com

2. log-in

3 click on your account name (top right corner)

4. select setting from the drop down folder

5. click on the security tab

6. look at the list of my devices and put your mouse and do not click over the "most recent activity" listings and it will pop up a window with the IP adress

7. Don't forget to make a change ( add a folder, delite a file anything) to your dropbox folder, as that is the only time It will sync with the website and register an IP adress. Make a change every time you want to track it.

8. As soon as the computer is turned on and gets an internet connection it will log into dropbox and if it sees any changes then it will register an IP adress

9. Next put that IP adress onto google or a IP adress look up such as http://ip-address-lookup-v4.com

10. This will give you latitude and longitude info as well as a map, you can copy that latitude and longitude onto google maps.

11. Remember that the info may be incorrect if it is a dynamic IP address so next you have to call the local internet companies and give them that IP adress and see if they service that, from there they can tell you if it is a Static IP. If it is then you to the police department.

From Retrieve a Lost or Stolen Mac With Find My Mac

Make Your Mac Make a Noise

If your Mac is online and in the same building as you, your Mac can call for help. With your Mac selected in your devices, click Play Sound. The Mac will begin to chime, and it’s going to be a pretty annoying sound. If your Mac is in earshot, you’ll know about it.
