Are you using the multi-touch trackpad or a separate mouse (Bluetooth/USB)?
Does the problem only occur when in iMovie?
What are you attempting to do when this happens?
Just trying to get some more information to further assist you, thanks.

Multi-touch trackpad
Only in imovie
Deleting a project
Thank you.
Does this only happen with a particular project or does this happen throughout the entire iMovie application?

This link may help. I do understand that your iMovie is not "crashing" but instead having trouble removing projects, but the solution of removing the .plist file is pretty universal and may help.
The entire imovie application.
Thank-you
It didn't rely help because it didn't crash and it worked for a minute but then when I clicked on the next one it failed again. Why is it doing that
Will it even open a project?
If not, your project library may be corrupted.
Well I can't open any other projects. But in the end all I am trying to do is delete an unwanted project.
Thank-you so much. I am so grateful that you answered that question for me. But how will I be able to force quit and re-open iMove without using the actual application.
If you need to "Force Quit" the application, press the keys CMD + Option + esc, then select the application to quit.
If by force quit, you mean resolve the problem with iMovie freezing, I am sorry I do not know. The only thing left that I can suggest is to reinstall the application.
I tried that and it isn't working and I can tell you for sure that iMovie hasn't frozen.
If you would like to know what I pressed to make my iMovie stuff up. Here you are. I pressed Control+click. I don't know if anything bad happened to make my whole laptop stuff up but yea.
I do not want to have you running in circles, but maybe you should check the status of your hard drive to verify that system files are not corrupt.
If you choose to do so,

(I perform this often, and find that it improves overall performance of my computers)
Did it do anything bad because I need this laptop for school purposes and we are doing a project on iMovie.
