Great problem on interlaced footage

Hi all,

I've just started to shoot 1080/50i footage (AVCHD) with a compact camera (Sony HX20V).

My final target is bluray.

I've transcoded with Compressor the original .MTS to Apple ProRes 422 LT.

Edited (in FCP 7.0.3) with some basic cuts and cross dissolve a bunch of test clips transcoded as above.

Produced the bluray with the "share" function.

The result, seen on a 42" plasma TV is awful: a lot of terrible combing and artifacts on any moving object/subject.

My "fixing" strategy will be:

- "sanitize" the system, erasing Perian and the Panasonic AVCHD importer

- verify the Compressor settings for ProRes 422 LT: here i need for your help !!!

- give a try to ClipWrap to transcode .mts->Prores

Any other idea?

Thanks a lot in advance

Ok this is a longshot but, does he have the Panasonic AVCCAM importer?

If he doesn't I would try uninstalling the plug in. It is a Quicktime plug in which enables you to view MTS files in Quicktime player , but I'm not sure if it is reliable for anything else.

Go to your root drive/ library/ Quicktime and remove the Panasonic AVCCAMImporter.component plug in. restart your computer and try log and transfer again.

As I said it's just a thought but it may a conflict in Compressor and log and transfer.

By the way did you log and transfer to Pro Res LT ?

Just to complete the "solution".

Once i've tried to have a Bluray from FCP with the "share" function i've ended up with a Bluray

with the same interlacing problem.

Then i've made another try and i have choosen "send to compressor" and within compressor i've applied a Deinterlacing (even) effect.

After that no more intelacing problem 🙂
