Why is my macbook pro running slow and I can also hear the fan running continuously

My macbook pro started running slow last night. I turned it off and waited til this morning to turn it on again. It is still running really slow when I browse through my dock or apps and everything takes forever to open, my fan is also running pretty loud, I could not hear it running until last night. Can anyone help me out?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6)

I had a pop-corn break...sorry.

I have never had a twitter account... not sure exactly where the files are... try a search in your drive (do you have spotlight in the old 10.6? {I was a 10.3 & 4, then this...years later...the powerbook just died ten days ago...15 days ago already}

Anyway- if searchlight shows the executable files of twitter, get them OUT

OK I searched "video jams up mackbook 10.6" and found this page- the part about the battery ( button about the size of a quarter if I get it right..2032 maybe):

http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/troubleshooting-when-your-mac-locks-up-or- acts-up.html

  • Replace the battery: If you have a new Mac, you won’t run into system battery problems for years. But if you have an older Mac that is behaving weirdly — a common symptom is the wrong date at startup — the small battery on the motherboard that keeps the clock and PRAM working might have run down. These batteries are easy to replace on older Mac desktop machines and not so easy on all-in-one units.

    Replacing a battery is also a common solution to problems with wireless devices. If your wireless keyboard and mouse don’t seem to be working, replace their batteries.

I just found, at top right of this page a link to this comment (see similar comments):

In addition to all of the points that CT listed for you to check, I would like to add one more.

That is check the size of your Desktop folder.

Since the files and folders on your Desktop are handled specially by the system a large Desktop folder can negatively impact performacne.

I had the same problem as you did around the same time. Lol. Turns out it was my hard drive failing that caused those problems. You should check to make sure you don't have the same problem........... Power down your Mac then hold the option key and the power button till it turns completely back on. You should get an screen with two hard drives on it. Chose the one on the right. Then pick the option that says disk utilities. Select your hard drive from the list on the left. If it says that it can't be repaired that means you need a new hard drive. If you have back ups then your good, just install the Mac os with the cd they gave you in the box and transfer your info from the back ups using migration assistant..........

Hope this helps. ***** having to wait so long but in the end it's better than having to buy a new MAC.
