You can't use a Maestro card in iTunes Store, App Store, Mac App Store and Apple Stores. Sorry

I have not seen an official Apple statement ... which is why I was careful to write 'I understand'.

I wrote in that way as several senior contributors have written about problems with debit cards and particular reference was made to India. Being unable to ascertain the OP's locality I used the proviso.

The global diversity of Apple's interests does tend to make hard and fast rules difficult to establish and perhaps a less autocratic approach to the occasional deviation might be in order.

Apple has no issues taking personal debit cards issued by banks and directly tied to a user's demand deposit accounts in the bank. The iTunes/Mac App Store system handles them equally as credit cards. It is because these are verifiable with the issuing banks, and have verifiable billing addresses that show that the user is domiciled in the country.

Apple has never taken pre-purchased, self-funded debit cards, regardless of the mark; VISA, MasterCard, etc.
