Creating Apple ID without credit card

Hi,

How can I create an Apple ID to use on Itunes without a credit card? I want to get free apps for my ipod touch.

I don't want to go through giving my serial number just to contact Apple support.

I searched Google for an answer, and many people say an Apple ID can't be made without a credit

card but I know that's not true. Many people already have. The closest I've come to making an Apple ID

is clicking on a free app in Itunes, and then I start making an Apple ID account, I click "none" for payment,

and I enter address/name, and when I click next is says "Please contact Itunes support to complete

this transaction."

I read the Apple support article "HT2534" and it's not valid based on my experience, because

after I click "none" and fill in name/address, it says to contact "Itunes support" as mentioned above.

I won't tether my credit card information to my serial number and iPod because I want to read pdf

files on my iPod with privacy.

When I want to buy apps, I already have an iTunes gift card to make payment, but I can't use it

without an Apple ID.

Help.

Hi imwright29,

Thanks for your answer, but I'm afraid it doesn't work. I tried everything you mention - free app, download, apple ID, new account - but when i click "none" for payment and fill in name, address and click next, it says I need to contact Itunes support to complete the transaction. It looks like it worked a few years ago, but not now.

I'm really frustrated about this and am starting to question if I wasted all my money on the ipod.

Sad.

Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old

After about an hour of messing around, I succeded setting up a new account without entering credit card information.

My experience was as follows:

Accessing over VPN from the Netherlands, the "None" button was never displayed, whether I tried in Itunes, iCloud or Firefox.

I got the idea to connect via wireless to the router of a UK IP address, of the friend of mine which I am visiting while writing this. I.e. turn off the VPN that I routinely use. It then worked and the button appeared. Now I did not want my billing address to be the UK, and it was possible to change to the correct country,

  • My conclusion is that either the UK is a favoured country (UK based people can create an account without entering credit card details, whereas Dutch people cannot...).
  • Alternatively Apple recognises major VPN providers and hides the button when a user is accessing via VPN and demand that VPN users must enter a credit card. Strange, since many use VPN for work etc.
  • The fact that I changed the billing country did not seem to make a difference.

Most international vendors have country based policies and YES there is a certain amount of discrimination and bias towards certain areas. Some countries are very much favoured and others are treated with suspicion or banned. If there is also a check for VPN usage, then this means that people in countries that are given an unfavourable treatment do not have an easy way around it. Sure if you play around with TOR etc, you will eventually succeed, but that is over the head of most regular users.

Apple is more or less forcing Apple productr users onto its iTunes platform and ought to make it very easy to create accounts without entering credit cards. It ought not discriminate on a country basis or any other basis, such as whether a user chooses to use VPN.

Google finds tens of thousands of hits on this problem, yet we are seeing no clear response from Apple. Clearly they are not prepared to put the cards on the table and I am not liking that. It is preferred that as many as possible hand over their credit card details to Apple, despite the fact that they never intend to buy anything, just use the free services.

I think at this point, your best shot is to apple, and explain your problem. I understand that you don’t want to give your personal information out, which is good to be cautious about. If you are concerned, read apple’s privacy policy, and see that they won’t give it out to anyone. It sounds like this problem is something to do with your email. It may have been used for an account already, or it could be a co email for another account. Either way, calling apple will help to find out.

hi Apple8844

i have the same problem you have.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A NEW EMAIL ADDRESS AND USING THAT NEW EMAIL ADDRESS TO CREATE YOUR APPLEID, BECAUSE THEY MAY NEED TO VERIFY YOU EMAIL.

1. what you need to do is forget all the appleID you create before that asked you for credit info since you cannot delete them anyway.

2. create a whole new apple ID.....BUT....you have to go to buy any free app, i buy minesweeper classic since that one is only 0.6Mega so very quick to download

3. follow the process and where it asks for you credit you can select NONE, you should be all set. let me know if you have any questions. GOOD LUCK....If you have solve the problem a different way, please let me know. thanks

hello, I'm just stopping by to mention that the lovely and gracious apple has now made it not possible to buy anything in their store without adding a credit card.

I already had an apple Id and now apple has quaintly decided to shove it up my ***.

I'm disgusted with apple and am now going to merrily go pirate the music which iTunes has made it impossible to download, and for the rest of my life I will never buy any apple product.

It's the last crazy straw, apple you've lost a customers 😀

I am in the Uk and had the same issue when setting up my young cousins iPhone last night. The none option did not appear for me when I was setting up the apple ID, the only option I had was to enter credit or gift card information. I gave in eventually and entered my visa details, downloaded a free app and then went to modify the payment information. At this point the none option was available and I was able to select this and clear the visa card information. Perhaps the same thing will work with a gift card, but I guess you would have to grout and buy one. Putting a random number in didn't work for me, although from previous posts it seems to have worked for others?!

Well, try not making you apple ID on itunes, instead try to make on apple.com! Thats how i first did it, and you don't have to give any credit card infromation, or a seriel number. Or you can also try making your apple ID on the app store for your computer, this way you should be able to make an apple ID without putting in a seriel number, or a crdit card number!

The answer to your question is that "YOU CAN NOT CREATE A NEW APPLE ID WITHOUT ENTERING THE CREDIT CARD" which is suck and pathetic.

The worst scenario is that once you enter the system , it stays there permanently as you can ask apple to remove from the system. This is very unfair and dangerous. I just spoke to apple customer services, explaining to him that I wanted to change my address without the need for entering my credit card number. It only allows me to change the billing address but not payment address or home address without entering the credit card number. So I decided not to update my home address just billing address.

I remembered 2 years ago that I complained the customer service how to remove my credit card number and they told me how to do it but now that is history.

So I was fortunate that my current apple ID does not the credit card information.

I spoke to the annoying apple customer service who did not answer my questions directly by saying "No you can't do it" instead asking whole bunch stupids such as "how did you edit the address etc etc"?

I told this bone head apple customer service that I will not trust any company not even my company to enter the credit card number from the system no matter how secure they are. Look at Sony , a year ago, someone broke into their systems with passwords and credit card number shown in the systems.

Be careful.

I do not know how it works, I suggested that you consider buying a prepaid credit card and put just $20 one time off only and then do not put any money any more for ever. U can use that prepaid credit card for buying anything but then do not top up the money to the card. You then use this card to register your apple id.

I wonder how smart apple detects this card, if you accidentally buy the item using the prepaid credit card that does not have any money. If they detected then card that was no money, then you are safe using the card without accidentally buying the item.

I never buy the application from apple online so I have nothing to worry. Besides they do not have any credit card information. Imagine, you die and your credit card number was still in the system and people stole my apple id and use it . That is totally unsafe.

I had this problem there was no "none" option, on the payments page, but it says you can use a itunes voucher in the end I bought a £15.00 itunes voucher and inputted the code and it let me complete my account set up and start to download apps and music. When I then went back into my account details (after completeing the set up) the "none" option had appeared, thats something apple needs to look at, why isnt the "none" option available from the start?

My friend then informed me that they took their ipod4 (which she got from HMV music store) to the apple shop and they set hers up free of charge and she didn't have to buy a voucher or input her bank details. Should have tried this option first!

The online help is not very helpful! Tried phoning first they said I had to email the support centre, after a couple of emails back and forth 2 days later they hadn't helped so i bought the voucher. What happened to good old fashioned conversations where things get sorted quickly.
