Well, no update on an existing phone can do that. It's a hardware issue.

I believe that Griffin make a FM radio that plugs into the iPhone and can be controlled through an app. But the latest reviews are not positive.

Be aware that FM reception on a phone can be very hit and miss......

Surely the most viewed and discussed subject in the Apple Community forum, yet still no product updates with this needed feature. If this many people see FM Radio as a must for a smartphone, Apple would have listened by now don't you think? Yes, there may be products on the market which you can plug into your headphone port, or into the lightning charger port on your iDevice, but then that means you either have to play radio via speakers or risk not charging your phone whilst the charge point is in use.

Apple need to roll up their sleeves and get to work on a new product in 2015 which has this basic, but desperately needed function that we call FM Radio!

Not even in the top 50 of threads that have been here. Views don't really count since people just scan through and read for curiosity. Many of the 227 replies are repeats from the same people.

So you have maybe 100 people that posted here wanting FM radio. And out of 100 million iPhones sold since this thread started what percentage of users asked for this?

How is it "desperately" needed?

What you fail to understand Modular is that not everyone lives in the middle of the city where WiFi and cellular service are plentiful and work well. In Humboldt county you best bet is satellite WiFi which has a delay. If someone wants to listen to the local KMUD broadcast while they work on the farm with their iPhone I have found that it is impossible with the iPhone. So it really is a flaw not to have a simple FM antennae in the iPhone. What is really is, is a way to force iPhone users to use the Internet to get a radio signal which is silly because the radio signal is everywhere and the Internet is not. So yeah, Apple please give me a radio antenna of help with a third party option. I would like to listen to the local radio station conveniently from my iPhone without having to buy a nano or use a second device. The android has an antennae and one of my co-workers uses it all the time to listen to the radio for this purpose. It's something the android can do and the iPhone can't. Which is an obvious flaw to me.

WE do care about radio on iPhone thats why we are here on the thread. Im not sure why this thread is so important to a brillant mind like KiltedTims but to me its important because its a badic function of other smartphones and iphone doesnt have it. I am not sure if the "royal we" ever needs radio where "they" are but it seems obvious to me that a radio feature can be very useful when you are in areas without service and need to hear the weather report or local news or even if i get tired of the music on my phone.

ARe there any third party utitliities that i can use? Id rather not have to buy a nano just to hear the radio. Its a really inexpenisive thing to add it. Thats why other phones like the android have it. Has anyone used a third party hardware to listen to radio on iphone? i find the wifi appd really fall short as well.

It seems that a lot of the frequent posters and helpers herenpost under the assumption that everyone uses there phone in hole or office areas only where there is cell and data service. what if i want to use the iphone wherever i go? I have the bleasaing of a life full of beautifulm remote locations and fresh air. On te road there isnt always service and a lot of things fall short in the iphone.

There are a lot of apps that just basically crash the second i Lose service. I would appreciate it if i didbt ger eude insulting comments again about how cell/data free options arent important.

Honestly, if Apple had any intention of adding an FM receiver to the iPhone, it likely would have happened long ago. If that is a crucial feature for you, you should look into a smart phone that includes it, or simply buy a small FM radio. You need to understand that as a user who "needs" that, you are in a tiny minority. Posting here isn't going to accomplish anything.
