Won't send SMS on Virgin Mobile

also try your sim in a different phone and see if you can send texts. if you can its the iphone that will need a restore

if you cant then its solely Virgin mobile's problem

I have the same issue. Just got the phone yesterday. Inbound and outbound calls/emails are fine. Receive text, but cannot send. I called VM and they have an automated message about. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

Thank you for the information. I have had a rocky start with VM as well. Recieved my iPhone 4S yesterday ported the number over however was unable to make or recieve calls as it said that I had not paid my bill. When I checked online it said my payment was due in 2002. This SMS situation is not helpful.

I suspect they are not prepared for the slightly more advanced users who are shelling out the $700 for an iPhone. I hope for and would expect more. We shall see.

Let's hope that the 7/11 date is correct or it is sometime sooner than that.

I also had the same problem with sending text messages with the iPhone 4S. I went back to Best Buy and we tried a different iPhone but the problem persisted. I decided to get a cheap phone to keep my number until I switch to AT&T but Virgin Mobile couldn't transfer my number. I talked to them for more than 6 hours total for three days and they keep trying the same things over and over. I am tried of it. I don't have a working phone anymore. I am very disappointed with their service.

Is anyone able to send SMS as of today, 7/11? I am still unable to send SMS messages (like everyone else it seems, I can receive SMS and send/receive iMessages w/ other iPhone users; voice calls working fine).

Still nothing today. In fact I was having problems getting into my iMessage and Facetime today as well... still no SMS though. I spoke to a CSR and she was unable to help me and gave me a telephone number to apple support:

I have not called yet, but this is just becoming really absurd. How can a $700 device not be able to do something as basic as send an SMS on an existing network??? I am flummoxed.

SSDD. I felt I was on to something yesterday. When I type *#5005*7672# (get the SMSC) on the phone keypad I get Setting Interrogation Failed Service Center Address No Address. I then used the code to set it, but was unable.

I did write a reivew. I'd recommend everyone else do the same. People ought to know they're buying an iPhone that won't text. I sure wish I knew.

I am having the same issue as well since I got the phone and service on the 9th. VM's twitter support said there is an outage in my area (San Diego). What areas are you all located?

Also, as someone stated above, group texts seem to work, just not regular outbound texts

DC area, East Coast. I can do anything that doesn't require SMS. As an added plus, I can't activate iMessage/Facetime for my phone number because it looks like it sends an SMS do that.

So very frustrating.

I wonder why I haven't heard more about this, this thread is the only good google match i've gotten for "Virgin Mobile iphone 4s can't send texts". Think it is affecting only a fraction of the iPhone 4s' or all of them? One guy earlier mentioned exchanging it for a different phone with no success though...also it's been many days since this thread was opened
