MacBook Pro slow shutdown

I've been having slow shut downs on my MacBook Pro for a couple of years now, have just upgraded to the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display and still have slow shut down issues. It's not too major, but can take about 15 seconds to shut down.

Years ago I have a 13 Inch White MacBook and shutdown on that was pretty much instant, a second if that, even after 3 and a half years use and an almost full hard drive. I upgraded in 2010 to a 15 Inch MacBook Pro and thats when it all started, took around 15 seconds to shut down. I always use Migration Assistant when setting up my new Mac's and again did the same a few weeks ago when upgrading to my latest MBPr. My sister has recently had a MacBook Air and this shuts down instantly, so was wondering if there may be something causing my slow shut downs?

It may not be the end of the world but from having pretty much instant shut downs on all my previous Mac's going back 12 years to all of a sudden a couple of years ago having extended shut down times on the latest machine it seems a bit strange. I read somewhere about using Disk Utility to repair permissions which I've done but that hasn't changed anything. Anything else I can try?

In retrospect, even I used to get slightly longer boot times. They reduced after installing windows 7(same time that one of the apple updates came out, so not sure what affected it). But yeah, I guess sheer luck?! I can post a video to YouTube maybe of both the fast boot times and slow shut down times.

And secondly, as many people have asked, can someone put a walkthrough please?

I tried jeepster40's approach and removed/rebooted/reinstalled the Wi-Fi network setting. It made no difference in shut-down time for me.

Looking in verbose console mode, I see an apparent delay with Parallels (v7) hypervisor shutting down. The console explicitly reports an 8-second delay, which is much less than the minute or so total delay that I am experiencing when I shut down. I previously removed Parallels and doing so had no effect either, but it is possible that Parallels has components that are not removed by using its uninstaller. I may try and do a more comprehensive removal of all of Parallels components and preferences and see if that helps.

Hi, I tried all the suggestions to speed up my shutdown. None worked.

Then I stumbled across the solution (at least for me).

Just go to Safari's "Preferences", then "Privacy", then click "Remove All Website Data". Bingo! I went from 20 second shutdown to 1 second.

I think I've given up that this will be resolved lol plus another issue I have which I've posted on here. Tried everything anyone has suggested and no luck. Guess it will get fixed at some point maybe, just annoys me that my sister's MacBook Air shuts down in less than a second and it's a couple of years old but my brand new retina MacBook Pro takes about 15 seconds and I've no idea why 😟
