hello,

just wanted to reconfirm that harri's fix way up at the top of this thread, STILL works under 10.4.7. i came back here after upgrading, knowing that isync would have overwritten the hack during the 10.4.7 process, as it did with 10.4.5/6 if i remember correctly. re-editing the metaclasses file (and also popping either of the lovely tiffs supplied, named NOKN80.tiff, in the same folder as the plist file) works a treat.

i deleted the old n80 (with old wrong icon and telling me to install some plugin if i want isync to work) from isync and then just added new device and away we go....

one word of advice - from my previous experience. do a full sync before each new OS update. that way, i just tell isync to 'erase all data on device then sync' each time i have to re-add the phone to the new OS/isync. no worries about merging data etc. it only gets rid of calendar and address book stuff from your phone. maybe i'm doing things the wrong way but this method works just perfect for me and i thought i'd share it.

thanks again harri,

nick.

Hi Robert,

Try this:-

Pair your phone and computer in the System Bluetooth pane.

Download and install the Nokia 3g modem script from - http://www.taniwha.org.uk/files/Nokia3G2004-12.sit

In the System Network pane select Bluetooth.

In the PPP tab set

Service Provider: orangeinternet

Account Name: orangeinternet

Password: orangeinternet

Telephone Number: orangeinternet

In the PPP options

deselect all 'Advanced Options'

In the Bluetooth tab select Nokia 3G CID 1

deselect 'Enable error correction'

deselect 'Wait for dial tone'.

Go back to the PPP tab and 'Apply Now'

Make sure your phone can recieve data when you test it!

You should now be able to access the internet via your N80.

after upgrading to 10.4.7 I did change the mataclss file

I turned the n90 into n80-1
it paired fine and start syncing, but in a random number from my 570 contacts it stops
(sometimes 90, other 200, other 130..???)

and says [NOKIA N80] There was an error pushing some changes to the phone. The synchronization may have been cancelled on the phone.
Device "NOKIA N80" synchronization failed

anyone?

Hi all

I know this is a little off topic but I have been
trying to get my laptop to make an internet
connection using my Nokia N80's Bluetooth connection
but had no luck.

Has anyone managed to set this up and can you tell me
how to do it and what the settings are i.e GPRS CIP
string, username, passward and telephone number?

I am on the Orange UK network, any help would be
really appreciated.

I am using my new N80 with Orange UK to access the internet via bluetooth - works perfectly and is really fast compared to my old T610. It worked for me more or less "out of the box" - I just used the standard set-up and for the phone number used the string " 99**1#" (without the quotes) with an empty account name and password. You can also establish a pairing with the phone so that it accepts the connection from your Mac without asking. The only problem I have is that it works so well I am now in danger of running up a big phone bill :-;

Good Luck,

Ian

Cheers

The novamedia plug in isn't working, isync tells me that the plug in has to be removed and it doesn't open the program, probably because I did what reamer suggested before:

I have his files in this location:-/Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice /
Contents/PlugIns/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/

How do I undo this operation?

thanks

Using N80-1 worked for me also... I have hacked the
metaclass file several times over the years to get
various Nokia phones to work before 'offcial' support
is included and I always stumble on the name ie.
N80-1 instead of N80 Can somebody explain how they
find out this information?

Thx.

The name "N80-1" corresponds to the european version of the N80 that supports the european 3G standard (WCDMA 2100 Mhz). "N80-3" corresponds to the yet-to-be released US version of the N80 that supports the US 3G standard that cingular is currently building out, WCDMA 1900 Mhz.

and no, they are not interchangeable... N80-1 will not do true 3G in the US at the current time. although, all hope is not necessarily lost for those that have the WCDMA 2100 N80 phones (including myself) and wish to use 3G in the US. The FCC has an auction for the 2100 band scheduled for aug 8th specifically for 3G services. Additionally, Nokia is releasing a base station to transmit WCDMA 2100 3G in the second half of this year in anticipation of this auction. feel free to check it out at the FCC webpage:

http://wireless.fcc.gov/services/index.htm?job=service_home&id=aws

I would imagine that it would still be a year or more though until 3G service could start rolling out on this band...

Since I updated to 10.4.7 I lost the iSync settings.. so I re-did the hack

It updated ok once.. then when it detected changes between my N80 and my Address Book and wanted to re-sync, it stopped working

I keep getting "System Errors" on my N80 once it reaches either 380 or 420 contacts (of 514) that it is sending to my G5.

I have restarted my phone, un-paired and re=paired the phone, turned bluetooth on and off, closed iSync, removed device, re-added, etc etc.. I feel I've done everything.

But.. then why did it work fine the first time?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!

PS It seems to hang my phones bluetooth for a while. Then all ok.
PPS I have firmware:
v 3.0617.0.6

WARNING: THIS WILL ERASE ALL INFORMATION ON YOUR PHONE!

You could try putting your phone back to default factory settings by entering *#7370# and entering your lock code.

This will format the internal drive and remove any 'corupt' phone book store if this is the indeed the problem...

PS: Also go to http://www.nokia.com/support and log issues there as this could lead to fixes to any issues found.

Hope this helps 🙂
