installing programs on HD using SSD as system disk

Hi,

I have got a problem and don't know what to do. I have an iMac (i7, SSD 256 GB + HD 2 TB) with last Lione up to date. The OS in installed on SSD. I would like install some programs on HDD, but i'm not allowe to to it. Anytime I wannt to install the programs, only the SSD is available and the other 2 TB HD is locked (I mean the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark os over the HD disk). I would like to install Logic and some others music/audio programs with a lot of amount of banks on HD drive, because SSD has not enough capacity. Should I reformat and create new partition on my HD drive?!?!

I am also not able to install on any other disk than on SSD the programs like iWork, Microsoft Office for Mac and so on...

Ther is also a funny thing happening last time, as I installed the Logic studio 9 and some others programs. During the installation of Logic, I wasn't even offered CHOOSE INSTALLATION LOCATION?!?! The option was just jumped over and the program was automatically installed on SSD.

Pleas help me...?!?!?

Thank you,

Best regards,

dci!

What year is your iMac?

The only way to install PPC software is by installing OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and doing a custom install to install a PPC emulator called Rosetta.

Unfortunately, if your iMac is too new ( late 2011 or newer) you won't be able to install 10.6 as newer iMacs have been tweaked to only install Lion and soon new iMacs will be coming with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion pre-installed.

If your iMac is earlier than this , you can install OS 10.6.8 with Rosetta onto the HD, instead of Lion.

You didn't mention you had PPC software. Is this critical working software for you?

Did you realize that PPC software support had ended with OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard?

How much PPC software do you still run?

You will have to dual boot the system now to run the PPC software as this will not run in 10.7.

I have A LOT of PPC software that I cannot afford to upgrade for awhile, so I have not updated my OS X at all and stayed on Snow Leopard.

What was your reason for updating to Lion?

How much of your critical software is PPC based?

We need to know this before advising you further.

I think I laso fixed the problems with installing the programs on SSD or HD.

I figured it out, that Logic And Final Cut must be installed on SSD where OS X runs. The others programs, that I mentioned yesterday, I can install in HD drive. I tried to install, and I got an option on wich Volume i wannt to install. But befor I was shure, that I won't be able to do it. As I said, I get the point now. The almost whole Apple apps should be installed onto OS X drive, and other apps could be installed anywhere else 😉 😉

Thanks, bye bye
