Desktop Wallpaper folders disappearing/reappearing in System Prefs

I recently upgraded to a 15 Inch MBP with Retina Display and I have a problem with desktop wallpapers. I migrated everything across from my old mac and when I go into System Prefs > Desktop & Screen Saver there is a list of all the folders I've added with all my wallpapers in. I've deleted these out because the wallpapers are no longer suitable for the new display. I've then added in a couple of new folders with retina wallpapers in and everything is fine. The problem occurs when I quit System Prefs and go back into it, all my old folders have reappeared and all my new folders have disappeared. Due to this problem sometimes when I boot up my MBP the wallpaper has changed to something random.

I'm getting a bit fed up with removing and adding the folders back in now, is there any reason why it might be doing this or is there a solution?

I have found a way to get the desktop wallpaper folder to work. These are the following steps:

1. System Preferences-> Desktop & Screensaver

2. Click on the "+" button and add the folder where you have all the pics

3. Once the Folder is added be sure to close all desktop's if you have more than one else there is a bug which ll again kick the folder out.

4. Next select a wallpaper from the added folder and try to open a new desktop to see if the wallpaper is updated.If you dont select wallpaper but add the folder and keep the same solar system as your background then again the folder is kicked out.

5. Now close System Preferences and open again to see if you got the folder still in it.

Also if you have 2 folders with wallpapers and try to add both then, both of the appears there but only 1 will remain from which you had selected the wallpaper and if you have not selected from either of the two folders but selected from the apple provided then both your folders will disappear.

I tried several other combinations and this seem to be the only way to get it.

It seems Apple has gone with some type of format to reduce the cache storage throughout OSX.

Cheers.

i have this same problem on my 2011 iMac 27inch. except my problem is that the old folder that i used to have keep showing up and it deletes the one i just recently added. i guess at least it keeps the photos i chose on my desktop as a wallpaper. it's really annoying though since the 4 folders that show up on system preferences doesn't even exist anymore on my computer.

I bet you're right. I've noticed the same thing as what you have explained. And there isn't any plist file I can find to control those settings. The com.apple.desktop.plist file only keeps the folder of the selected image (or it doesn't keep the folder if no image inside is selected). Though now that I mentioned that...

Edit: Nope. No way to add a folder through the plist file since it gets overwritten each time you open the Desktop & Screen Saver preferences.
