iMessage "An error occurred during activation. Try again."

My iMessage registration says "An error occurred during activation. Try again." So this just recently happened around 5 hours ago, this is so annoying! I already tried the google DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) , I already tried the time "Automatically ON", & i have already tried restoring my iPod 4th Gen running 5.1.1 & Yes before this happened i was messaging "eligible" iMessage accounts. Please any help?

I had the same issue as everyone else, and called Apple Support saying that I have been unable to access iMessage and FaceTime for over a week and I read on some forums that it might be that I've been blocked out for some reason. The guy I spoke to took some info from me and then directed me to a senior technician who (after taking some security questions) unblocked it for me in about 15 minutes! I restarted my computer and it works fine now!

I don't know if I just got lucky or if it was because I knew about being blocked out - but asked very nicely about it - but this is the fastest I've had an issue like this fixed! He did say it was a once off to be unblocked, and couldn't tell me WHY I was unblocked, though... that would have been nice to know to avoid doing it again..

All I can say is contact Apple Support and tell them exactly what happened (and it pays to be nice about it), and hopefully they'll unblock you.

Good luck anyone still suffering!

I have my ipad2 for almost 2 years...and I'm being affected too. I was looking around on apple support for answers, but it's taking a bit longer than I thought. Forget about calling them if you are over your 90 days...they will charge you for the call. I hope apple soon realizes that this issue is going on, at least since last night and that a quick fix is soon to come.

Hi Speechless777,

I'm a community manager and mod on a few other sites and I've seen bad customer service/support but this takes the biscuit.

A tech company like Apple and they have no twitter, Facebook, or proper forum support for it's community.

This would be in no way acceptable with the companies that I work for.

Anytime we have an issue like this we generally make a first heads up announcement and then give updates every hour or so.

@Apple Support - you can add the above into your support response triage documents - although I doubt you actually have one as you need a support service first of all!!

Here's the thing everybody with a apple device running iOS 5 seems to be having the same problem! Obviously something is wrong apple! I thought I'd get much better support for apple. I thought it was my iPod and got ready to almost smash it in to the table. It started this morning when I wanted to txt my friend a funny picture from the new spongebobs. But it got almost done with sending but. It didn't! So I just thought it was pictures, so just to experiment I tried sending "Hi" yet, it didn't work. Then i signed out and now im in this current state of frustaion. I've exhausted my resources and now hopeing apple will soon figure this out. If I figure it out I will eagerly share what i did. If somebody does find it please post! Thanks!

My boyfriend's phone was working fine until this afternoon and all of a sudden he got the "an error occurred during activation. try again" message for iMessage. We haven't tried FaceTime tho.. my iMessage is working fine and so are other people's who are on AT&T.. could this possibly be an issue with Apple and Verizon? He's on Verizon so i'm just wondering if it's a problem specific to that network. He tried a hard reset but didn't work. I'll ask him to check the date and time settings too and make sure his phone number is entered correctly. Otherwise i guess it may just be an issue he has to wait out. Just curious if anyone else here is on Verizon or some other network. Let me know.. thanks!

yeah, I've been trying to fix this since yesterday. My imessage was lagging so i decided to log out & log back in. When I tried to log back in it's been giving me error messages. So I decided to try and make a new account, but it wouldn't even let me do that either. I've searched about everywhere on how I can fix this problem, and I've tried about everything, and nothing seems to work. I hope this problem gets fixed asap... cause who can live without texting?! I sure can't, lol.😢Oh and same thing with facetime....

According to other Apple users, this is happening to only ios5 Apple products. That's why newer Apple users are more likely to experience this problem (or at least know about it). The unfortunate thing is, all other ios5 Apple devices that are older are unlikey to know about this problem until they try to FaceTime someone. This means, many users will not receive any texts from other iPhone users. This problem is only happening with Apple, so they should receive messages from non Apple devices just fine. It seems to be a worldwide problem, meaning the Apple iMessage and FaceTime servers are down. Apparently, it should be fixed soon, and we will just have to wait it out. Try again in 24 hours and see if it works. As of right now, you will have to find another way to contact your friends, co-workers, ect with Apple devices. I, somehow, have found a way to receive messages from other Apple devices but just not FaceTime or start a Group Message. Try resetting your Network settings by going to General > Reset (at the very bottom) > Network Settings. I was able to receive messages from other Apple products after doing so. I hope this clears things up!
