Macbook air vs Macbook Pro

I'm an 8th grader who does powerpoints, word documents, web browsing and light gaming, light movie editing, some ichat and some apps. Should I get a macbook air or macbook pro? If i get the macbook air it is no more than 128gb and 8gb of ram. And if I get the macbook pro it will be no more than 500gb and 8 gb of ram. Which one is more suitable for me? I need it to last 4-5 years. Is 128 gb enough?

Buy the pro. I think the pro is a much better machine than the air. The air has the newer technology with the flash storage and memory, but the macbook pro is not a slouch compared. The macbook air is designed for basic tasks, but it should be noted it can run more complexed tasks just very slowly. The pro allows for upgrades as well. But to answer your question about is 128 GB enough I would say no. For one you will always have to monitor your storage and space. Unless you buy an external drive to link up with your macbook air, you will have to acknowledge the limitations of the hardware on the macbook air. The macbook pro comes with a 250gb (Might be more now) hard drive, and the ability to modify RAM. The Macbook Pro also has better CPU speed when compared with the air, and processor speed makes a huge difference when a computer performs multiple tasks. So if you want a computer that will last for a while that is upgradable to a certain extent, get a pro. Airs look nice and the lightweight argument is valid, but I do not find it to be a good selling point.

I don't know what Markumpe ended up getting but I had this same problem between these two laptops and I chose the MacBook Pro. But I'm not really taking my laptop with me everywhere I go. I may bring it to school or a friends house every once in a while but that's it. Get an air if u need portability. The ssd is not a selling point In the air because the pro can be easily upgraded to one.

Well I got the pro along time ago, but i wasn't trying to imply SSD hard-drive is the only selling point. My response was in regards to the original poster. The Air everything on it as flash memory which always for the response speed in the the computer to hasten. In terms of cost though the macbook air is higher in price because of the technology. For what I do, i usually dont carry around my macbook. Then again 4 lbs isnt that big of deal to meal to carry around.

The performance, if going for a 2011 or newer Air is not an issue at all, the only limitation is SSD size, but then again, SSD is much faster than HDD meaning turning it on (booting) will take approx same amount of time like waking up mba from sleep (10-15s). And while MBA may be more powerful in other areas, you won't notice it without playing graphical intensive games or so.
