mountain lion up-to-date redeem code says 'this code has already been used'

I have a problem with the code I was sent from Apple for the up-to-date program - I received both emails - I followed the instructions, opened the pdf with the password supplied - copied the redeem code and on my first attempt to redeem the code in the mac app store I received the error message "this code has already been used. Each code may only be used once."


I definitely did not try to redeem the code previously - and I followed the above steps within minutes of receiving the emails from apple.


I did the claim through the Australian localised Apple site if this is helpful?


Any assistance very much appreciated - very annoying!

Ive just phoned apple care in the UK - And the American sounding chap I spoke to was not aware of the issue?? REALLY!! -


He's popped me on hold and is checking something - Been on hold for the last 10 Minutes!!! - Its ok though Ive managed to find a local rate numer and not one of those 0845 premium lines.


Still not good enough, whats the delay in resending the codes.

Frankly, I'm not sure.

When I called, they did admit that the case was acknowledged, and say that I didn't need to do any further operation and they will send me the new code within 2-3 days. Then I got the code a few hours later.

Anyway, I suggest you to call them. If you don't report the problem, how would they know your code doesn't work?

Welcome to the App Store Experience!


You will not be able to get free things from the App Store, like this free upgrade, unless you register a valid method of payment. And you'll have to agree to lots of terms of use that have nothing to do with what you are trying to accomplish. Be sure to take the time to read them all carefully.


I went though this kind of experience months ago with some other apple thing. I am really encouraged to see that this process is still in place.

I understand that when you try to redeem your code under the OS X Mountain Lion Up-to-Date program, you see a message stating that your code has already been used. I know you are eager to get our newest Operating System up and running.

I received my second code and this one has also been used. Spent 10 minutes on the phone (remember that we're all still within our free phone support period, I suggest we add some extra workload for them) only to be told that another code will come tomorrow. No explanation, no apology.


Getting a tad fed up now. I predict I'll get the code in the morning, have to wait till I get home to try it out and have no confidence that it'll work this time either.

Ok, so I phoned support again, spoke to a very friendly Irish guy who logged my issue and told me to use expresslane.apple.com to register my problem. He said to click iTunes, then store, then which ever best described the problem and on the next screen explain in the box provided what the issue was. I did all that (only took 2mins) and 30mins later my 3rd code arrived and I've successfully downloaded ML.


Stick with it, we'll all get there in the end.

Just some info on a related but slitghtly different problem. I received the same error message... but only after entering my download content code successfully, initiatiating the ML download, which was then was prematurely terminated for some unknown reason. When I tried to repeat the process, I got the error message everyoine describes, but in my case it was a somewhat legit since I had theoretically used the code but still was without a download. After reading through all the threads, I decided I didn't want to hastle with redeeming my free download at the present time and would just pay the $20 for the download from the App Store. I figured I could contact Apple after all the dust had settled and take a stab at getting a refund. Anyway, when I attempted to make the purchase, the App Store recognized that I'd already "purchased" the download (which obviously was refering to my failed attempt at a free download) and gave me the option to download ML again for free... no code required. This time, the download was successful. Again, my problem was slightly different, but possibly others received the now notorious error message under similar circumstances.
