How do you access Preview documents on iCloud?

Other workaround I use a lot is the icloud folder which Goodreader for iOS offers (and even better, this folder is also on the mac). I placed a shortcut of it on my desktop (you can find the folder here: User/Library/Mobile Documents/.........~com~goodiware~GoodReader). This offers me even an OSX folder-structure (folder in folder...) in iCloud and supports all file-formats. It's really easy by just drag and drop the files I need in there and ...voilà... it's all accessable on my iOS devices.

This is the most annoying thing ever by Apple. No wonder their stock is tanking. I have all my uploaded documents in iCloud and the only way to retrieve them is to BUY more apps from Apple. I also love the way they warn you that if you delete iCloud access, your documents stored on your computer will also be deleted. This had been a nightmare for three weeks and I am way behind at work as I upgraded to Mountain Lion only to find that half my work applications are not supported any longer. Having owned Macs since the late 1980s, I am sorely disappointed in their lack of consumer support for their loyal fans. Just bought a Windows laptop so I at least have a computer that doesn't rob me blind and cost me time, thanks for the user friendly functionality. Seriously????

Wow Apple has this for developers and all that $$... Why not make this work for consumers already?! This has gone nowhere from the days of Me.com

You have to download the Pages app on all mobile devices (it's a $9.99 app). This will access your iCloud Docs

Including PDF's?

This is incorrect.

Pages on iOS is walled off like any other app. You can see things created in iOS Pages and OS X Pages, including any Pages-generated PDFs. But those Pages-generated PDFs won't appear in Preview in OS X, and Preview-generated and Preview-stored PDFs won't appear in Pages for OS X or iOS.

Unfortunately, until and unless Apple changes things in iOS 7/OS X 10.9 we're stuck with the workaround of hacking your ~/Library/Mobile Documents/ folders to shift things around between apps or get PDFs into something with an iOS equivalent.

If you attach a pdf file to a iCal event on the mac, you can read the pdf on iOS when looking at the event. I was looking at using iCal as a journal/notebook. Not sure if this was mentioned earlier.

iCloud doesn't work as a hard drive. It's an application-driven storage area. Only the application that writes can reads in its area. Unfortunately Apple didn't release iOs versions for TextEdit and Preview applications yet.

However you can share PDF files with your iOs devices and read them using the iBook app. It is easy to do.

You have just to drag your PDF files to PDFs session of Books Tab at iTunes v.11.0.2 application and then sync it to your iOs devices. iTunes will convert your PDF in order to look like an eBook.

To solve this problem you may bind Documents folder from "Preview" to Documents folder from program "Documents" or "GoodReader".

1. install macfuse

2. install macports

3. install bindfs (port install bindfs)

4. mount folder (bindfs ~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~Preview/Documents ~/Library/Mobile Documents/your_program/Documents)

If you go to the iCloud page and navigate to "Documents in the Cloud", you will see a tab for Preview and TextEdit. Under the caption it references seeing files on multiple Macs. It does not reference Mac and Mobile Devices.

So it would appear it is by design that you cant access these from your mobile deivce. It would be great if it was. My scenario was trying to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp. Instead of printing instructions I would use once, I thought I would save to the cloud and pull up on my iPad to follow along.

My work around was just to email the instructional PDF to myself and open it on my iPad into iBooks. The funny thing is Preview is already present on iOS. Whenever you open a document in iOS from your email, the staging ground is the iOS version of Preview. From there you get the option to open in another capatible application installed on your iOS mobile device. So it looks like the feedback/enhancement to Apple would be to make Preview an accessible app from the home screen and just a feature other apps can load within themselves. Then allow it to access files in the iCloud from Macs.

I feel the same. Over 20 years using Apple products and now I'm on the verge of jumping ship ... well at least for my mobile needs.

And now as I think back, it has never been smooth sailing. I would just overlook any problems and keep spinning the usual Apple rhetoric.

I'm sorry but iCloud/Apple ID/iTunes is a debarcle. Then there's the Final Cut Pro disaster. And the OSX Server dumb-down. And talking of dumb-downs, what about the Airport Utility? Oh yeah, hiding the Library and no "Save As..." in OSX 10.8(ML).

Being able to access something as basic as PDFs from the Preview app on IOS is a no-brainer.

The work around is to save PDFs in Dropbox rather than iCloud. When you open then on your computer they still open in Preview. You then open them them on the iPhone/oPad using Dropbox; it has a built-in PDF reader.

It is pretty pathetic that Apple has not provided a Preview application on the mobile devices. Apple should really be sitting up and listening when people have to seek 3rd party workarounds for what are realy core functions.

The other advantage Dropbox has is that it actually allows you to create a folder structure.

Sorry for any repetition, I've never felt competent to answer here but now I have a suggestion that I haven't seen here. At least in the Apple system, you can copy and paste a pdf file from Apple Preview to an editable Apple Pages document which you can post in iCloud Pages and then open, for example, in iPhoto Pages. Only thing is the formatting is not copied from Preview to Pages, even the font. I just copied a 2 column file which was a a formatting nightmare in Pages, but I did it and I just opened it in iPhone Pages.
