How do you access Preview documents on iCloud?

We need iCloud-aware PDF access! We shouldn't have to buy an app to access a PDF.

the new ibooks apps in Maverics should make this easy for us.

however, thats just about pdf that are some sort of literature. what about other pdfs that i would like to be kept in preview? say bank statements...

i would want to access them via icloud on my ios and mac.

If you use Dropbox (and assuming your Dropbox folder is in the default location):

1. Open Applications > Utilities > Terminal

2. Type the following single line into Terminal and press Return:

ln -s ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/com~apple~Preview/Documents/ ~/Dropbox/Preview\ in\ the\ Cloud

(Dropbox doesn't support aliases; a symbolic link is needed to sync properly.)

You're done. Now you can access Preview documents saved in iCloud on your iOS device (using the free Dropbox app). Look for the folder named "Preview in the Cloud".

Can I do this also for Google Drive? Would I need to enter a code into Terminal?

Also, how would I under either of these commands in Terminal?

This is a complete bummer i now use desk connect great app for previewing files and sending them to your ios devices.

iCloud stores my PDFs as used on OSX. Now I'm on my iPad. Where in perdition are my PDFs?!

Storing documents by application (as opposed to storing by project) is a lazy shortcut designed to make the manufacturer's life easier. It does not serve the end-user. iDisk was conceptually a much better approach.

I disagree. Sandboxing would force u to import documents into the app's directory and then work upon it. This only means double the copies and hassles saving it back to idisk. I just think we need mavericks like tags to mark documents as a part of project(s). And i think apple is eventually getting there. What i dont like is apple giving stuff in bits and pieces.

A preview app for ios is a very good idea. Pdfs that are not books and images that are not photos can be easily accessed this way.

Perhaps from a coders'/manufacturers' POV, but it's utter nonsense from an end-user's perspective.

The idea of creating/naming/organising separate project directories for Preview, Numbers, Pages, Keynote, TextEdit etc. is mind boggling.

Let's say over the course of a year I'm working on a dozen different projects. Mid-year I decide to revisit an earlier project and I know I've written a transcript of a meeting somewhere but I can't quite remember which app was to hand at the time (I might have written the memo in a cell in Numbers, a Textedit doc, or if I got really carried away, it could be in Pages.) Let's say the doc is in Pages, but I hadn't created a sub-folder in the Pages app because I'd already made sub-folders for the project in three other apps, and the file is now sitting among forty other files with assorted names... well, it's either lost or there goes another 10 mins of my life trying to find the wretched file when it should have been in a single folder with all the other relevant docs pertaining to the project. QED.

i dont know what apple plans to do about this, but as of now, tagging the file seems the best way to do it.
