Notes wont sync between Iphone and Mac on Mountain Lion

I am not sure how to get my notes to sync between my iphone and mac on Mountain Lion. Reminds works fine but when i went to look at notes I noticed that on my iphone under iCloud i didn't have notes turned on. So when i turned it on it said something about needing to create a @me address so i created one but now my notes are synched. Am I missing something?

AGreed. Hah. Funny. They've still not fixed this form on iPhone.

ANyway, I agree that they won't fix this. In fact, the "conspiracy" goes deeper because I emailed this issue to macrumors.com or appleinsider.com and neither of them have chosen to write an article about it. I highly recommend you, and everyone else irritated by this, writes to them and asks them to take Apple to task on this bug.

For me it's definitly an Apple-bug and not fixed...

anyhow it bugged me for to long so I set out on how to fix it server-side (yes, I have the dovecot imap server in control). http://wiki.dovecot.org/Namespaces describes Courier compatible namespaces (which I had upgraded from). This set I can access my mailbox with AND without INBOX.-prefix.

Since then it's all working like dreams come true.

If you don't have control over the server but unix knowledge, you could try offlineimap or imapsync to synchronize your server with a local copy of your mailbox. Then this could be provided to Notes without prefix.

Okay, for the rest of you... it'll be to bad as I would also think that Apple is not going to fix this soon...

Sudennly, after the last iOS update, I couldn't sync notes between iPhone 4s and Mountain Lyon. I used to get it done through my gmail account. So, I had to open an iCloud mail account and enable notes on my Mac and on my iPhone via iCloud (all through settings) . Finally moved all my notes to the iCloud carpet and then it all got sync. A nightmare to discover that.

Macbook Pro - Mountain Lion. I don't use icloud.

I was having this problem.

I found that by enabling only one email acount to sync the issue corrected.

This is what my settings now look like.

On my iPhone:

A) Settings, Notes, Default Account, Gmail IMAP

B) Settings, Mail/Contacts/Calendars, Gmail IMAP, Notes = ON

(All other mail accounts - Notes = Off)

On my Mac:

A) Open Notes Aplication

B) Notes drop-down menue, Accounts, Mail/Contacts/Calendars,

Choose which Account (I chose Gmail IMAP),

Check the notes check box on the right side to enable.

C) Notes drop-down menue, Default Account, Choose which Account

(I chose Gmail IMAP)

Clearly I am not a tech person and I don't know which of these steps is redundant but my notes are syncing.

There are still some really old ones that never made it onto my Mac... still working on this.

My question is this: If notes are still somhow involved with mail accounts,

why are they no longer viewed and accessed through the Mail allpication on my Mac?

Just putting a post here to to tell Apple there are many users that have this problem. It works fine on my IPhone, but not in Notes.app.

I feel this is unacceptable. "I just works" - HA!

I made the swich a year ago from Windows to Mac. Im starting to regret it. Apple do a lot a things much worse than Microsoft. How many times havent i heard, "no thats not possible on a mac."

iTunes 11 no longer supports notes in the iPad settings within the "Other" category. The only current way to move your old "On My iPad" notes to the new "Mountain Lion" notes is to navigate to the following folder:

"User" / Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes/

You will need to download TinkerTool and relaunch the Finder allowing you to view hidden folders to get there.

Once there, copy the Notes.mbox folder and move it to your desktop.

Open Mail and import the Mailbox folder now found on your Desktop. This will import all your old notes as e-mails.

Now open Notes and quickly copy each e-mail text from mail to notes. It's a little teadious, but it's the fastest and only method so far until someone creates an Automator WorkFlow to do it for you.

Good luck! I just did 180 in about 20 minutes.

The original post does not talk about IMAP or POP or any email settings to sync Notes ans there is a lot of people talking about that in this thread. I have exactly the same problem as I cannot sync my notes from my Iphone to my Mac even though most of them are recently created and all icloud settings are correct but no Notes sync...

I do not sync my emails at all over the cloud as I do not wish to have my personal emails on the cloud and anyway, why should I sync my emails to get my Notes synced while there is an option to just sync Notes?

There is obviously an option in IOS and Mac Os which does not work at all with Moutain Lion. I am going to report that bug.

Pearls1111 - You might "clearly not be a tech person" but, yours is one of the few posts I understood (sorry, I'm just not as advanced as many of the posters seem) that I understood and, easily followed. Guess what? It worked!

I've had my Mac Air for 2 months. When I first set up, I was feeling my way, having always been a PC/Windows user. I think I made quite a few mistakes. I have managed to work my way through most but, one of the things that was driving me crazy was that, when I started, I had notes syncing on my iPhone4 and my Air then, about 3 weeks ago, the sync disappeared. I was having trouble with my apple mail (I've got 4 different accounds, POP and IMAP) and was changing all sorts of settings trying to fix things. It must have been during that process that I messed up my Notes.

It's weird that Notes are connected to Mail but, your solution tells me that that is so. I am very grateful to you and your very explicit explantion of your settings. This may be a bug and there may be some complicated fixes but, yours is an easy fix and hopefully I'm now "bug-free". I'm sure your post will help many more like me. Thanks!
