Problem with Restart

I think you'd better not shutdown by holding the power button. By my understanding, this is force power-off and may damage the filesystem.

I installed ML on a mid11 Mac mini and had the same restart problems. I followed all the instructions listed here, nothing helped. After two damages of the harddrive and several new clean installs I tried a hint I found in another group: I pulled out the HDMI-cable before shutdown and: the computer shut down!!! My Mac mini is connected to a Samsung TV. I changed the connections, changed the cable and I think it helps.

After install the ML, try update to 10.8.2, my problem is resolved with this version.

From the beginning I installed 10.8.2, the restart problem appeared anyway.

_Hello - I solved this problem:

I verified my drives and repaired permissions.

THEN:

I ran a cleanup using mackeeper.

It cleared all the logs and after I restarted the system again - The message never reoccurred.

_What caused this issue for me:

I disconnected my macbook 2011 from the console cable port of a Cisco Series switch but I didn't end the session properly. So my whole computer restarted. Then I received the same message everytime I restarted no matter what I did UNTIL I ran the procedure above.

Changing the HDMI-cable didn't really help soliving the problem. It did twice, since then my MacMini always restarts after shutdown again. Only if I pull out the HDMI-cable before shutdown and hit Return "blind", it properly shuts down. ;-(

Same problem, it seems to be an hdmi problem. No one has solved?

Apple released today EFI update 1.7 just for late 2012 mac mini, not for late 2010...

What is a EFI update?

Apple's German phone support says I shall wait for update coming soon (?).

Still the same: only if I pull out the HDMI-cable before shut-down, the mac mini will do so.

Many thanks to clarkfromproctor as his solution of deleting iCoreservices folder has fixed both of my late 2009 MBP and late 2012 MBPR. My systems were in restart loop but safe boot works perfectly.

I had the same problem, after the installation of the mountain lion - 10.8 - with all the upgrades and firmware done.

My Mac Mini 3,1 (early 2009) model, douring the shutdown, restarted automaticly in crash mode.

The Mac Mini was connected using the VGA port to an old LCD monitor.

MY SOLUTION !!! :

I've only changed, using the menu of the MAC, the configuration of the monitor from automatic to a lower quality (Manuale) !

The problem exists only in the automatic configuration that it is also the maximum one.

Now the Mac Mini shutdowns without problems ..

This is the solution! It doesn't look too fine, but the mini will shut down every time.

Now I have a new Samsung TV and I tried to run the mini with max resolution, and, I couldn't believe, it works!

Never trust the automatic apple configuration again!

It's almost a year since this post has been put up and I have recently upgraded to the mountain lion. You have saved me from a lot of heartache. I followed your steps on how to remove trend micro file from popping up (which solved my issue). I truly appreciate it. Thank u
