10.8 caused internet connection to slow to crawl

After upgrading to Mountain Lion my Internet is slowed to a stall using both Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. I do not get a failed page error, but the progress bar never finishes loading. I repaired permissions, reset PRAM, and fsck'd.

I posted this using iPad.

I also created a new network Location. No change.

Same thing here.

Macbook Pro Early 2011 w/ Mountain Lion

4GB RAM

Connecting wifi to AT&T u-verse box

ISP is AT&T in Santa Clarita, CA.

MBP is running at about 1.4 Mbps download.

My old white 2006 Macbook with Snow Leopard is running 11.46 Mbps download on same network, at the same time.

And it's not just the browser, because Apple Software Update is telling me 10-12 hours to download 1.4 GB of data.

Are all of you trying to connect to the internet right after you have installed the OS or are trying to use programs or other items?

When Mountain Lion is installed and is booted for the first time it goes through an indexing process to index all of the files on your computer.

That may be the issue you all are having.

Thanks,

Andrew

I don't think it's the indexing. I let mine sit around most of the day while I was doing other stuff. It wasn't until almost 12 hours after the original install that I started trying to download updates and noticed the massively reduced speed (1/10th normal internet speed).

However, I am noticing that web pages open up in Safari at just under the speed they did in Lion. I just can't download anything. I finally downloaded the iPhoto and iMovie updates on my old white macbook and brought them over on a flash drive just to get them done.

Something's wrong when the internet worked fine right before the install (it took 45 minutes at 6am PST yesterday) and today I've got to pull a 6 year old mac out just to download updates ...

OK. I tried connecting via Ethernet directly to the router, and I am having the same issues.

It is not WIFI.

I went to speedtest.net and had two very different results.

1- REALLY fast 30Mbps download / 1Mbps upload(which is normal)

2- REALLY slow 0.4Mbps down / 1Mbps up

So, the upload was the same, but the download speed was either all the way on - or nearly off.

Not sure what that means, but this is pretty frustrating.

Do Apple devs/reps ever reply to these issues? Needing an answer quick!

At least in my neck of the woods, AT&T's speedtest was pretty accurate with speedtest.net.

2011 Macbook Pro w/ Mountain Lion - 1.8 Mbps download

2006 White Macbook w/ Snow Leopard - 11.4 Mbps download

Both uploaded at about 1.45 Mbps give or take a few.

The varience between AT&T and speedtest.net was only around 0.5 Mbps.

Almost feels like something is throttling the download speed in Mountain Lion.
