How long will it take for apple to respond to my request for free mountain lion?

I have emailed Apple and waited a few hours, am wondering whether I filled out the form wrong and wasted my chance? Wondering how long anyone else had to wait?

Thanks!

Be happy that you haven't updated yet. I am restoring my last time machine backup prior to the update as we speak. In my case I own a MBP early 2011 and the upgrade went flawless with regards to the installation. However I found many issues in the last 24 hours of usage. Battery life was noticeable lower, wi-fi connectivity dropped constantly and minor glitches with Airplay mirroring. The OS looks great once they get all the initial bugs worked out. Not for me at this point.

YEA!!! It took about 48 hours for the code to arrive (I also called and rcvd the standard answer that it was up to 72 hours to process - WHY????) Anyway, I entered the code in the App Store as instructed, the Mtn Lion icon appeared and then went into holding patter for nearly an hour. I opened the package and began the install about 30 minutes ago - still have 20 minutes left on the scroll bar which means probably 45 minutes to complete.

I cannot believe any automated verifications system should take 72 hours to issue a code for a download. I think when you buy a companys new flagship laptop fully loaded you should be able to expect the update that should have come with the computer to be issued the same day as everyone else can buy it. It's not like they did not know how many people purchased these computers between 6-11-12 and now. Uptodate codes could have been given out a week or more in advance.

I received my free upgrade code in roughly 12 hours. I did not complain or worry. It's free. I had been using my new Macbook Air for 5 days straight just fine WITHOUT Mountain Lion, so another day or two wait was not going to kill me. Some people posting here are simply too intense. Wow.

However, I did laugh at the new cloak-and-dagger type authorization from Apple - including password protected PDF for retrieving my valid serial number for Mountain Lion.

Some people are saying they will never buy Apple again or other type threats... Great news! Please leave. Go back to buying PCs or jump on Google's crappy browser OS. I've been using Apple since 1986 (loved my under-performing Apple IIGs) and miss the days when Apple was the underdog.

The thing that you are forgetting is that there are other people other than you! how many mcs were sold in June? well over a million. how long does it take to send out a million emails and codes? Your computer works beautifully already relax and enjoy it and stop selfishly hogguing the communities page. right now you are just venting and taking up time that people with issues should be having.

Really annoying. Apple failed pretty badly with the up to date programme. Also the even more disapointing thing is that whoever I call at Apple, they all tell me different answers. Two advisors told me 24 hours which passed a lot of time ago and another one 72 hours. They could have atleast send us an e-mail saying your mountain lion redemption code will arrive in 24-48-72 hours or whatever. So we atleast know what to expect.

I have never been disappointed in Apple until now. I did like everyone else, turned in my "ticket" on the 25th early AM, got the "claim submitted" with the green check mark. What a joke that is.

I called the first day in the late afternoon, "oh it takes 24 hours from the time submitted". I grumbled and said "oh well, I can wait a day.

Called yesterday AM and was told "the reviews are so high on the OS that the demand is far beyond what Apple anticipated".

Sounds like a que card written for every release of every Apple product ever produced. I replied that is was odd that if my laptop needs a part or repair I get overnight service on a physical item yet, for an electronic code I'm still waiting. It's more the principle of the matter than the lousy $20.

The "new" timeframe was quoted as 72 hours. So just as with an item shipping, the timeframe conveniently changed. As others have stated, we were all told on the keynote if we bought our new Macbook Pro Lion would be included at no charge.

I consider this to be false advertising and just a way for Apple to prod people into buying the OS instead of waiting.

In any event I'm not going to give in. I'm sure it's coming but did Apple ever consider that some people had a small time chunk planned to install and play with the new OS?

Looks like the days of the Apple I know and love may be a thing of the past. It's a bummer to be sure.

I too submitted my claim first thing on the 25th and haven't heard anything back. I called Apple support and they said it had been approved but it can take up to 72 hours.

Personally I cannot see any reason why this should take more than a few minutes. I have this vision of a little guy in the back room with a green visor on reading over slips of paper to make sure that my serial number and date of purchase are indeed within the qualifying date...

It feels more like a power play than state of the art technology solutions that we have come to expect from Apple. Sorry I just find this one a bit hard to swallow. Perhaps it is an effort to try our patience and get us to drop another $20.

Sigh...
