Actually I should clarify. Specifically you can select a search engine. My gripe is that with Safari 6, they created the "Unified Browser", and did away with separate "Address Bar" and then to it's right "Search Bar". Prior to Safari 6, a person could go to the "Search" and amazingly they could - search, OR, they could use the "Address Bar" and type the name of a website ( without the .com, or .org, or even an incomplete name), hit Return, and be taken directly to the site. Now In the Unified Browser, you need to type the complete name with the .com or .net, or you go to Google, or Bing or whatever search engine you set. Makes no sense to me why Apple would take that choice away.
PS I just upgraded to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard and am having all sorts of problems. Don't attempt the upgrade - like me - without back-uping up your stuff first. Apple Support has been surprisingly ineffective in resolving problems. A few:
"Chess" doesn't work properly,
The computer goes into sleep mode when viewing video's,
Lack of uniformity with regards to how applications open and close.
My mouse pointer was glitchy, but that seemed to work itself through,
No support for Safari 5.
They hide the Preferrence Library from you.
Yikes. Stick with Snow Leopard.
