Mid 2010 MacBook Pro kernel panics

Macbook Pro, 15" medio 2010, 2.66 Ghz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1067 DDR with OSX 10.8 (same problems with 10.7.4) crashes after installing latest updates and stils crashes after installing 10.8. There are no memory problems, but reinstalling origanal memory (4MB). Don't help.

Clean install did not help also. It looks like 10.8 does not the trick, because the system crash even more.

I dont know if there any updates or is it a typical Apple Mainboard problem?

The problem with the batteries is there is no point at which they stop working completely, and there is no measurable way to declare them definitely dead.

They just continue to perform more and more poorly until they are not meeting your needs in such a strong way that you want to throw them.

I suggest you may NOT want to perform a calibration cycle. Lithium Batteries sold today are harmed by deep discharge, not helped.

Maybe you guys can help me.

I had the same issue.

I went to the Apple Store in HK (I work in Bangkok, no Apple Store there) But i will be back in germany in a few months.

So my MLB got replaced but the display started to have some VERY weird green colour flickering now. Option: Pay 500$ for a new display.

I had the old MLB installed back again. The Display works fine, the crashs continue.

What would you advise me to do? Just use internal Graphic card and switch off bluetooth while playing?

Please help, I cannot get it fixed.

Greetings from Greece...

I have had the exact same issue. I sent my MBP (6.2 mid 2010 15'inch) to the official reseller of apple yesteray here in Greece (golden-i) and after an hour the technician told me that the official apple diagnostics application that they used failed, reporting a GPU problem! He said he will contact apple today and get back to me.

Today i was annaounced that my mbp has indeed a gpu problem but apple through the official reseller refused to cover it because i didn't passed the test. My problem (Symptoms and Error Reports) are identical to these you have here, which resulted in defective machines that in the end got replaced by apple. I also asked them if they did the VST test and the responce was yes. Guys please help me.

ps : this is my report from the crash -----

So I totally forgot to update what happened to my Pro.

After the stuff I described in other replies, I went to Apple Store Amsterdam and handed in my Pro. They called me a week later to come pick and it up. Once they brought it, I immediately requested a new test. They tested it and the new motherboard failed as well. So again, I left it there to be replaced with, again, a brand new custom ordered motherboard straight from the factory. So I went there a week later to pick it up and asked for a test again, but the guy in charge said his people were to busy to test it and sent me home. Haven't had problems since, so I'm just going to guess there are no video problems with this MLB. I think I spent well between € 80 and € 100 just travelling to Amsterdam for this issue and I lost my laptop for over 3 weeks, so it wasn't really "free" after all.

A month ago my hard drive failed, after a painful load of trouble with the computer. I suspect the many kernel panics to have damaged parts of it, however it seems what they say is true in my case: Apple products are designed to last 3 years. Of course, Apple also thinks their computers shouldn't get older than 3 years either, since they offer a 3 year AppleCare program (and only 2 years for their mobile devices) 😉

However, I like to believe the mid 2k10 MacBook Pro is the worst Pro ever produced and other lines and models are less faulty to begin with 🙂

@Nikos

Otherwise, you could either call Apple Greece and see if you can resolve it with them (to come pick-up your Pro, replace the MLB and return it to you) or you should go to an Apple Store in Italy (make sure to call them first). Open this link and then select Italy as the region.

HI,

Technical Life of a traditional harddisk is more or less limited to 5 years. Installing a new drive, preferabel a ssd-drive, give youre MacBook a longer live and boost the performance (Using a Ssd). Reinstalling (clean install) we also help to gain some speed and resolve Some issues.

So my MacBook pro is still going strong with some extra ram and ssd upgrade.

Hello everyone, thanks for all the information, I unfortuently came to discover this thread, and the issues within, a little late.

I have a mid-2010 MBP, and I never experienced the kernal panic (as far as I can remember) until I upgraded to Logic X. When I did, this kernel panics started happening with such frequency that I can barely work on any projects. Today I have had 4 KPs, and it's 3pm. I did some research, found this thread, took it to my apple service centre, and was confirmed that I have the graphics card problem. Problem is, I am a couple months past the extended warranty. I am living in Vietnam, so there are no Apple stores here, but the official service centre said they cannot fix it because I am just past the limit. They were kind enough to mention thoughm that if I could convince Apple in my home country (Canada) that they should disregard the cutoff of the recall, then the Vietnamese centre will do the repairs.

What I am hoping is that some one here has had an experience where they have conviced Apple to fix it despite the 3 year boundry. I find it a little frustrating, and disapointing that Apple, who i've been a loyal customer of for 17 years, does not send out an email (they have all my information on file) to all the people who purchased mid-2010 MBP's informing them of the recall.

Anyways, sorry to complain, but has anyone convinced the authorities to bypass the time-limit of the extended warranty? And if not, is there any more tips or tricks to help relieve the kernel panics?

Thanks

Hi Aleos, I'm from Brazil and I'm having the same situation and frustations. I've just bought this MID 2010 MBP from a friend that used to use Snow Leopard without problems. But I need to install de Mountain Lion because the last XCode version requirements. So I'm now, tremendously frustrated because we don't have Apple Stores here in Brazil, and this MBP has passed the 3 years extended guarantee. I hope Apple solves this.

Regards.

If you have registered as a developer, (not necessarily by paying money) you can get a slightly older version of XCode from the developer site.

For sure I could use a slightly older version of XCode, but Apple forced all developers to migrate to new versions of XCode and consequently to new OX versions, unless you assume the risks of develop iOS software without testing and debugging it on iOS 7 devices.

I think you have already seen everything Apple is willing to do about this issue.

I don't know... wouldn't be fair that they just replace the defective (time bomb) hardware they had sold to us?

Sorry, but I've been an Apple fan from long time, and now this is so frustrating. And for us, brazilians, Apple hardware (as so many other electronics) are so expensive. Just to exemplify, a new MBP 15" starts from R$ 9,999.00 => U$ 4,236.00!!! And I bought my used one for U$ 1,271.00.
