Update on my BT Kernal Panic.  Removed all BT devices, turned BT on and was able to sleep/wake my MBP without incedent.  Added back keyboard, tested sleep/wake successfully.  Added trackpad back with same success.  Fingers crossed that is may have fixed the issue.

Do not illude yourself, googleboy ... if you have problem of hardware or bug in the software, forget it. Nothing will work properly. it all is only work around.... take your computer go to the support and leave it there. They must to do their job. And you can complain legally if something go wrong. You have your rights

  • Ruud van Asperen Level 1 (5 points)

When you have a problem with the GPU (typical). I must agree with tomas, i dont think it will help to turn off BT. On the otherhand I did not test it .

When you are the first owner of Apple MacBook Pro (mid 2010) I would advise you to a) go to a Apple authorized repair center b) install 10.6x or 10.7.1/10.7.2.

    A waiting Macbook Pro owner

I am suffering from the same problem on my MBP (mid 2010) with the following specs after upgrading to Mountain Lion:

    2.66ghz Core i7, 8GB 1067 Mhz DDR3 RAM, 120 GB Intel SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB.

You're saying this is a hardware problem and I need to get my logic board replaced? My computer is still in AppleCare so this would be possible.. Just curious why a hardware problem would only surface after an OS upgrade.

    Well everything is possible ...

    The summary of my case:

    a) the computer is suffering from this spontâneos black screens since the update to Lion. (actually it happened some times with the original OsX Leopard, but was very rare, 2 or 3  times in the year. I gave no importance for that. )

    b) I waited months for the Lion Update 10.7.4. The problem reduced but continued ...

    c) since the update to MountainLion (26/07) it happended 9x.

    d) yesterday I passed by a Autorized Support and the guy ran the test: nothing appeared to be wrong.

(He was very polite, but everybody look at you with a face like "Are you sure that it happen ?" ... and you start to think "I'm not crazy ... (m' I ?) ... no just need to look at the logs"). Anyhow, he asked me to leave the computer there. I couldn't ... needed to do a backup (using gfxCardStatus to force the integrated one) ... Now it is ready. I have to leave it there.

Quiet a some people complaining of the same problem. Some reporting logic borad replacement.

I do not believe in software problem... software they know how to do very well .

I hope they find the solution ... By now I had to take my old Windows machine back to life in order to continue working ... bad.

    Don't Panic !

The problems surfaced already with the upgrade to 10.7.1 but where more or less fixed by a patch. When 10.7.3 and 10.7.4 were released i got more and more problems. I think, i'm not sure, that more and more drivers and parts of the OS are writen 64bits. Also the newer versions OSX are leaning more on the GPU and it looks like the problems are surfacing faster. When you go back to the orginal 10.6 (less 64bits drivers) there are lesser (or no problems). But it looks like the problems surface when the software adress the nvidea GPU, at least thats was my experience.

Just thought I'd update you: I just took the computer in to apple and ran both the standard diagnostic test and the video systems test (vst). The machine passed both tests without issue. The genius and I removed all non-apple extensions - avatron's air display, logmein, and pdanet. I am hoping this fixes the problem and I will keep everyone updated.

  • Ruud van Asperen Level 1 (5 points)

Thx. by the way. I made (several) clean installs, even replaced memory and hdd.  I hope that removing some of the non-apple will do the trick.  My system did pas the standard diagnostic test, but failed the video system test and hence im going to get a other mainboard by Apple. Thx for updating us.

  • Ruud van Asperen Level 1 (5 points)

My MacBook Pro is back from the IAMstore, where the mainbord is replaced by the servicedesk. Apple and IAMstore did a great and fast job!. The Macbook Pro was repaired within two day and works super! Al my problems are gone.  There are no issues anymore with the videocontrollers... all my OSX panics have stopped. I'm using my MacBook without any restrictions...

    Thx Apple! and IAMstore Rotterdam!

  • fndtomas Level 1 (0 points)

Oh, van Asperen ! That's is really great !

My MB still in the service center. Two days ago, when I went there to leave it for diagnosis the guy told me they don't know anything about such garantee extension. Can you please pass some more details about your case.... service id, anything that i can help me to show that it is exactly the same case ?

I want to be sure that they are not treating differently two instances of the same problem.

Anyhow, I'm very happy because you finally solved your problem and now can come back to work in peace !

    Gruß !

  • Ruud van Asperen Level 1 (5 points)

I'm still very happy all the software runs great.  It works so great I restored my old  installation and i'm have my old installition back and no problems at all.  So clean install and old install works fine with the replaced mainboard.

    Thanks for sharing your story..

I am having same crashes with macbook pro mid 2010.. However, in my country Apple does not take responsibility about it and telling me nicely to go **** myself.

Do you have any idea what is the cost of this fix incase that you were not covered? also, what exactly did they do?

  • fndtomas Level 1 (0 points)

I just got my MB mid 2010 from the repair center after 6 days. They said me "There is no problem with your machine. Try a clean reinstal". The machine crashed just some minutes ago ...

    calling the AppleCareHotLine 01805009433 ( or it should be: AppleDoesn'tCare ? )

    I'm very sad.
