Bill33,
I didn't understand your message so I re-read my message and the ones prior and I still don't understand your message.
You insinuate that everyone that upgraded to 10.8 and doesn't have a steady internet connection through ethernet, needs a new logic board! 😕
As you say yourself the only thing that changed was the OS, so its obviously not the logic board.😉
If you want an explanation....a possiblilty is that the new logic boards dont have driver issues with the new OS....
...but again, I'm sure this will be fixed in the next "classic" update by Apple.😎
(But to put people through a warranty process and setting up a fight with Apple is pointless....)👿
My humble opinion.... 😁
Bill33:
I wasn't saying that anyone who has the problem should go out and replace their logic board.
I was greatful that someone having the same problem suggested I call for technical support if I was in warranty. I did that and Apple's solution was to change out the logic board. For someone within warranty this is an easy solution. In one day, Apple sent out a tech who swapped the board in my house. It took about 1 hour.
If one is out-of-warranty then waiting for a software fix or trying software solutions is the only practical option. These forums are not just for non-warranty solutions. They are a place to have discussions. Since my thread actually led to resolution of the problem, I am sure at least one person might be interested in it.
I will not be repying to you again.
thanks for not replying again....and thanks to Apple for replacing your logic board...
So 10.8.1 is out... And guess what... Still not fixed!! And further more it has now screwed up my windows machines copying to the server! Get constant drop outs on large file transfers... So add smb now broken to your list...
If you ever needed any proof that Apple is no longer the platform for professionals... This fiasco is it!!! Please Adobe real ease your apps on Linux.... And maxon...
Mac Pro Early 2009. Did a clean install of Mountain Lion and everything worked great for the last few weeks. A few days ago I created a 802.3ad (link aggragation) setup using both of the gigabit ethernet ports and I have the exact same problem as others. I can configure it, get it to work, but when I reboot I lose the connection.
Did anyone find a updated .kext file since that seems to be the most obvious answer to the problem?
My kext file is: Intel82574L.kext, and the version is 2.3.0b4
I have reinstalled new drivers and could not find updated .kext file. You would think if it was that simple they would have repaired it with 10.8.1? I would downgrade to lion if I was you, Mountain Lion is simply not what you expect for a professional environment.
I have fixed the smb problems by basically replacing Apple's new version of Samba with the open source version. More evidence if you need it that they have completely lost their way...
All these os upgrades seem to be about now is trying to get you to by the latest machine. AirPlay doesn't work, screwed up networking, outdated open gl support, unstable and untested on mac pros...
Time to wake and realise its time to make the switch... Unless they finally license os x to a third party professional computer manufacturer...
If only Adobe made Linux versions of their software...
i still have the same problem on my imac 27inch mid 2011 -nothing has changed. I installed the update....didnt work......
then i installed a clean install.....again same unplugged ethernet..... the ethernet is not unplugged....that is for sure....
i tried the ethernet on another computer (PC) and it works....???? with 10.7 it all worked perfectly..
,,,.but..at least the wifi works...
They haven't fixed the issue... It's unlikely to be fixed anytime soon either. Apple simply aren't interested in Ethernet or pro users...
Reinstall Lion... Get a refund for Mountain Lion... Then help us lobby Adobe to release Linux versions of their software so we can all get back to work!
It is not just me then... I have a 15" MAcBook Pro circa 2006... I was pleased when Mountain Lion was released since I was have a rough time with Lion... but the ethernet interface seemed solid enough...Installed Mountain Lion over Lion and for a while, all seemed ok.. including the ethernet functionality.
Then comes a spectacular crash resulting in a total rebuild - from a bare disk up and while the Mac is back to rude health in most regards, the ehternet port no longer works. You can ping it, but that is it. A windows machine on the same subnet reports "Destination refuses connection"....
How can something so fundamental slip through the net?
There are flies on Apple after all!!
There are more flies on them then a steaming pile of poo... They are now the guilty looking puppy sitting next to it!!!
They can deny it all they want... Simple fact is the os x is no longer the operating system for professionals. Right from the start the thought processes are just plain wrong! Just because iOS devices have been so popular they have assumed this is what we all want in a desktop system! I love what my iPad does but this is miles from what I need my mac pro to do. I need a rock solid system I can relay on to carry on earning me a living. Ever since Lion this is simply no longer the case... I never thought I'd ever say this bit they should follow Microsoft and release pro versions of the operating system which get us back to a point were stability and reliability and absolute givens. I don't need all the iOS nonsense, I just want my good old reliable mac back! You only have to look at fcpx, os x server and the last two systems up dates to realise this is no longer the platform of choice. I now boot my mac in windows to get the best from AE and C4D... How embarrassing!
I fear by the time this is addressed with a possible new pro machine next year, too many of us pro users will have already jumped ship...
Love the analogy 😁
Strewth.... I seem to have joined a turbulent stream right enough... I found your comment about Lion interesting.... When it was first released, I used it as an opportunity to remove the old hard disk and replace it with a bigger one. From the moment I installed Lion, the stability of the Mac was made a little less 'certain'. Oh, it would rarely crash, but Photoshop stopped exitting cleanly, the wireless network would find all other networks but my own (something to do with WPA encrytpion) and the most worrying, the graphics would occasionally screw up on walking from sleep.
Although Mountain Lion has resolved all the issues I had with Lion, this network issue just confirms a simple rule... if it is designed by man, it will screw up!! It's the third certaintly in life after Death and Taxes!
As I think I mentioned in my earlier post, I am more than a little intrigued about the fact that installing Mountain Lion over Lion resulted in a fully functioning network.... both wired and wireless. It is the subsequent clean install that has presented me with the same issue that has exercised so many here...
I think what makes me more sanguine than most is that I am a heavy PC user and still am... To include a Mac in my arsenal of IT related gear is relaitively new so to see that Apple can screw it up like Microsoft (am I allowed to use that word here?) comes as no surprise... But to those who rarely have anything to do the 'Dark Side', I can imagine how issues such as this can lead to a 'great gnashing of the teeth'...
Up at 4:18??? You should be in the land of Nod....
I'm in the UK, it's afternoon here... Think all these communities are on West coast time!
Believe me this is just the tip of the iceberg I have had with Apple since Lion! Lion without doubt is Apples vista moment... But unlike like Microsoft who I'm no fan of... Mountain Lion is no windows 7! Never thought I'd ever say that... My windows 7 boxes are stable, have better open gl support and hold their network connections! My Mac Pros are now unstable, networking doesn't work and have two year old graphic drivers!
I also have a mac server which is just a massive disaster area since Lion! They have implemented there own version of samba which has created nothing but trouble for all the other machines! Windows boxes can't copy large files, linux boxes disconnect... Amateur hour on an industrial scale! I have just replaced it with the open source version and it fixed the problems straight away! Of course the enterprise AppleCare team deny all knowledge of the issue... Instead trying to make me purchase a cross platform support package! Why would I buy that when they can't even support their own os!!!!
These will be my last macs... Sad but true...
They are no longer a computer company, it's more like some kind of weird cult! The AppleCare guys are always in complete denial which makes it extremely hard to ever repair issues... And forget the in store guys... Just plain odd bods! Fake smiles and clueless...
Well, if frustration was able to transfer into print, I reckon you have managed it.... I can heartily echo your comparison with recent Apple OS's with Vista... Call me cynical but it smacks of someone NON technical making a technical decision...
I heavily rely on the IT I have so carefully built up over the years.. I never had the Vista issue to deal with since I jumped from Xp to 7 in one hit... To date, 7 has been pretty good... so I would not have any issues in recommending it... As for MacOS well, it sounds as though you have (as have others who have posted on this topic) invested heavily in terms of platform and the software that runs on it... It must be serious indeed to have got to the point where you are prepared to drop all of it...
Your point about Samba raised a 'Mr Spock' eyebrow... I had a RAID that would never connect to the Mac... always to the PC's but never the Mac... I had always assumed it was something to do with the RAID...
I also share your frustration at the level of support... what makes it a more bitter pill is that uneasy sense Apple (and others) are consumately skilled at using their unwitting customers as sites for beta testing product. I would not mind... but it when it screws up, an acknowledgement of the issue and a comitment to fix it would be welcome.
Then to try to sell you a cross platform support package... well, that is SO provocative...
