Game Center for Mountain Lion not working

This actually worked for me. I tried everything. Clean install, repair disk permissions, PRAM reset, Chess to launch Game Center and none of these worked. When I used my USB modem with 3G, I was able to finally log in. I would say try an Ethernet connection verses a wifi but I can't confirm it because mine works now.

Trying a new network worked for me. I changed from using a modem for wifi to tether wifi from my phone and this worked just fine for my terms and conditions to appear.

There have been a million solutions that make no sense/seem purely coincidental, such as resetting pram (which is for video playback errors usually) or disk permissions (no). Also the chess thing doesn't make much sense either... Anyway, I am going to try this one out. If it works, you deserve a medal.

Sadly.. it did not work. When you opened game center and had it work, were you at a different location than you were when it didn't? I am beginning to think that this is an issue with the ISP.

For me I have my Airport Extreme Wifi for my home network and a USB 3G/4G modem for travel. My home network wifi didn't work, but for me and Jehri it seems using an outside network (be it tether or whatever) allowed us to connect. Once I connected, I was able to later connnect on my regular home wifi. It seems like you just have to connect once and then you're set.

Same here. I got checkmated. Not only didn't it work, but the only way I could get chess and Game Center to quit was to command>q twice in the blink of an eye, otherwise Game Center would keep launching. We really shouldn't have to go through this pretzel logic method to get an app too work.

I solved it, adding the following DNS servers to my wifi setting:

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

No joy. I added these servers to the DNS server already in my setup and restarted. No change. Do you know who owns these servers and what they're for?

I've been talking with Apple a couple of days about it, they didn't say if this was "a registered bug" or something, but they have too many people with the same issue, so it must be solved in future OS X updates... I believe.

When I was in contact with some Apple technicians they gave to me those DNS servers too. So I think it could be theirs... but I'm not so sure, I didn't ask.

Anyway, using it just to create the GC account, and then erasing the DNS, doesn't make any trouble for it to work.... I don't know how realiable is in terms of security, though.

In my opinion, Game Center doesn't worth the confidence, at least in the Mac, at least in Spain.

I have the same issue. I tried all the things listed below and called Apple Care, they can't fix it. I reinstalled ML, I fixed Java, I created another user, etc etc... nothing worked. This is my first mac, and I just bought it Sunday. Not feeling very secure in my purchase right now. Are these things par for the course?

I fixed the logging in problem by using my iphone to log into GC and accept the terms etc etc. After that, my Mac logs into GC OK and everything works OK now. This is a solution suggested elsewhere in this thread.

I am also a new Mac user. I'm quite happy with my new machine. I just dislike the insistence on making you log into a games app just so you can play a simple game of chess against the machine!

I used my girlfriend's Ipad and this worked. I didn't think it would work if the Ipad wasn't registered under my account. Thanks Philipco! 🙂 You're pretty cool!
