Try taking a chopstick or a pencil cut off smooth and super glue it to the battery being careful not to get any glue on the keyboard battery compartment. It may take a half hour or so for the glue to set sufficiently to extract the battery.

I finally got my (3 battery) compartment cleared. I had to disassemble from the power switch end, remove the circuit board and beat the last battery out from that end by hammering a screwdriver down on the inside of the spring end-plate. I was pretty sure this would ruin the keyboard, but I was desperate and ready to throw it on the junk heap. It worked! The end-plate moved down the tube, pushing the last battery out the other side. Then I had to hammer it from the other side to move the plate back to it's correct position. Tricky, but seems to work fine now.

The first battery came out with a little encouragement with a scalpel but the second was firmly "welded" to the aluminium tube. I dowsed it with WD40, later tapping the board on a bench to no avail. After consulting my nearest Apple outfit who helpfully suggested binning my wireless keyboard I removed the plastic cover from the back (as first suggested by my wife lol) then with encouragement from the above replies. Pushing the spring loaded contact to one side with a small screwdriver I tried to push the battery out but it was going nowhere! I removed a small screw which allowed the removal of the PCB/switch/contact assembly after disconecting the ribbon connection. This allowed free access to literally attack the offender with a hammer and joiner's nail punch which with some persistence began to move it!! I finally removed it with a long steel rod (kid's toy axel) made possible by the removal of the electronic innards! I cleaned inside the tube with fine emery paper and took the precaution of smearing silicone grease inside and on the new batteries. Everything began to function again except the caps lock warning light!! :)
