Multiple Displays Problem - 3rd display shows pointer arrow only

I have the same issue on my machine. I was hoping 10.8.2 would fix it but just as the others have posted it still occurs. Trying to hold out as long as I can without having to downgrade... very furstrating.

Just applied the software update for 10.7.5 and same thing happened to me.

Mac Pro (early 2009)

2x NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB

4 monitors

displays on the 2nd card rotate fine, but displays on the first card will not rotate (show the black screen except for the mouse cursor)

resetting ram and swapping cables doesn't help.

I've got exactly the same problem on my Mac Pro early 2009 with two display cards and three monitors. Seems like displays on one card will rotate ok but on the other card they won't!

Please Apple, Fix this ASAP. MacOS X is advertised as the "World's Most Advanced Operating System", which since the "upgrade" at least isn't true!

Just wanted to add my 2 cents, fix this! For graphics freaks like us with 3x 27" screens, having them in pivot mode is a requirement.

Having the same problem running 10.7.5.

I just upgraded from 10.6.8 where everything was fine..

I have 3xGT120s in a MacPro1,1, 2x monitors need to be rotated, only 1 will work, the other does the black screen with a working pointer. Going to try and regress to 10.7.4 and see if that fixes.

Confirmed by going back to 10.7.4 the problem does not exist.

I am experiencing the very same problem frequently, but not always when I boot Mountain Lion, using a Mac Pro early 2009, 2xGT120 with a triple screen setup (of which 2 are rotated). I'm getting 2 black screens with a mouse pointer in the correct orientation and resolution. Under Snow Leopard and Lion, everything worked fine. Resetting the PRAM seems to resolve the problem sometimes.

Apple, please fix this annoying bug!

I'm having issues with this too. Few weeks ago when I decided to shut down my Mac Pro and next time I started it, my second screen was black, but mouse appeared. Then doing some googling I founded this and I have managed to clear this problem by swaping second displays source from one 8800GT to an another one. Luckily I have easy access to rear of my Mac Pro.

I have 10.8.2 installed, early 2008 with 2x2.8 Quad, 14GB, 2x8800GT 512.

Nvidia has released a new driver that fixes this "black screen" issue upon rotate.

AND it has also fixed so that we can use up to 4 monitors on one card!!

I have tested it on a Mac Pro Mid 2010 with a GTX 670.

Connected via three Cinema Displays 27". 3x 2560x1440.

Should fix things.

Updating the driver doesn't seem to solve the problem here. Still having black screens with nothing but a working mouse pointer.

What card do you have? It may not be supported by that driver.

And you HAVE to have 10.8.2 + a reboot is required.

I'm using a mac pro early 2009 with two gt120 cards and i'm running 10.8.2. The system was rebooted.

Since i don't have two cards, that may be the issue.

The problem consists if you have multiple cards, my problem is that every monitor that is connected to my Geforce 120 GT ( my second card, so not in the lowest PCI-E slot) is black and only a cursor is visible. If I drag an open window to this monitor nothing shows up but the cursor. If I connect all my monitors to just the Primary card in my system ( Geforce 570GTX HD ) everything works fine.

So it's a strange bug as my secondary card is a Apple genuine one....
