Same is happening with my brand new mac boop pro 15". It was working just fine until I updated to the latest Mountain Lion patch 10.8.2. Guest account is also doing the same thing.

Guess I will just format and restore again. I have been having nothing but problems with this MBP sense I got it. After the first month the hard drive failed and I had to get it replaced. All my other mac products work great but this one is a pain!

Just got off the phone with Apple and this is how we resolved it. Boot into safe mode by holding down the "Shift" key. Once at the safe mode login screen enter your password and hold down "Shift" after the password and while you click the continue arrow. After it has booted into safe mode reboot the computer as normal.

I'm using a bluetooth logitech laser travel mouse on my 2012 15" MBA i5 and after rebooting with safe mode the dock and all mouseover events seemed to work as they should UNTIL I connect my mouse and then everything breaks again. I don't have another mouse (yet) to test with, but I'm assuming it might just be something wonky with the mouse drivers causing system issues. I'll update if I find anything else out again.

Thanks, JosiahW--I was on the verge of reverting to Lion. Like Rubayala, the restart took forever, and when my desktop finally appeared, my external backup drive kept chattering away for several minutes. I rebooted, and all is well so far. Dock and drag-and-drop work correctly, and I'm seeing a lot less of the pinwheel.

Apple, I'm gonna be very reluctant to ante up for the next version of OS X.

Well, after a couple days, the fix above stopped working, and I was back where I started. So I reverted to Lion.

Now I have the same issue in Lion: dock animation isn't working, and when I try to drag and drop an item (frinstance, to remove an item from the dock), the item stays stuck to the cursor. Never had this problem before upgrading to ML, and I'm pretty sure it didn't start immediately after upgrading to ML.

Crazy, right? If anyone told me this issue would persist after reverting to Lion, I would have slapped them.

Suggestions, anyone?
