os x mountain lion not compatible with this computer? what !!

I've just successfully loaded OS X Mountain Lion on one of our macs (Macbook with OSX Lion). No problem, very smooth via the App store.

I then went to repeat the exercise (as I had done with OS X Lion on both these macs) on a newish iMac (4 years old) with OS X Lion 10.7.4 as well from the app store and I recieve this message:

"os x mountain lion not compatible with this computer?" Ok, thats it. The app store sems to be saying my newer imac can't install OS X Mountain Lion. What.

Any ideas.

iMac, 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Here is a great program to determine when your Mac was built.

The site has a number of other great apps like one to determine your battery usage.
