Add my name also. One of the earlier responders said it was "clearly" stated in the tech spec and it was. But before the prodict was out we were getting all the marketing collateral and that was not clearly stated in that. I was waiting to buy it for this one reason only and as soon as it was finally available...at the very end of July (to me available in july means the first week or two, not the last day or two) I wasn't expecting to have to read fine print and tech specs to see if my mid 2010 macbook pro 17 inch "super" laptop which cost ~$2,400 was was too FRGIN weak to run a simple mirroring function!!!

Why, if they can figure out how to play a HD video from my laptop to appletv through iTunes, can't stream or play the monitor feed? Bad marketing, I was a product manager in a tech firm and they had to know they would get a lot of sales to people who would be unable to use the desired function. Most of us move too fast and live in too hectic a world and we developed a trust with Apple...this and a few other things are eroding that trust.

Maybe Microsoft has a chance to make a comeback if Apple is going to treat customers this way. AirParrot? whish i had heard of that before Mountain Lion.

To add insult to injury several regularly used applications are not so stable under mountain lion! wonder if I can roll back...

Such a dissapointment!

@flh99. Get over it cry baby! ML is a superb OS regardless of air mirroring. You are making this huge fuzz about ONE feature. The reason your mac doesnt support it (if you bother to even look). Is you are missing the quick sync feature included in the sandy bridge intel chipset. This is what air mirroring uses. Your computer is 3 years old dude. Technology moves faster every year. Oh yeah apple, please hold back on progress so that Mr bozo here an keep up.

Loser!

On Lion all was working pretty well. I use Mac Office because when a made the switch to Apple from MS I thought I would need it to integrate more efectively with my company's exchange system, and I did. Still use it as my histories are there though it is not as full featured as the MS version. Since Mountain Lion Outlook crashes a lot, and several adobe products are less stable including dreamweaver. I have 8G of memory and have been watching it and it doesnt appear to be a memory issue.

Get over yourself "fsck!". You would think i poked you in the eye, or maybe I did...do you work for Apple?

ML may be superb but it adds nothing to my use of my computer and fails to deliver the one thing they touted and that I had wanted for a long time. Actually my email seemd to work better before iCloud. I grant that i was not watching the apple literature close enough and bought on the first level marketing material rather than double checking the gotcha material. I bought my machine 19 months ago and still under the 2 year warranty so I expected no issues. I did not even know they had "seasons until it did not work and i discover it is a mid 2010 model, did not realize they sat on the shelf that long.

Many of us are not techno geeks as you appear to be. I do business, i want tools to work and features that work. I usually stay away from new versions until they are out for a while and proven but this one time I got excited about a feature I have been wanting for a while. I like face to face and go to the local apple store and they tell me get ML and it will mirror...so I do and it doesn't. Then they say...oh..yours is mid-2010!

I had my issues with MS and switched to apple knowing I would be somewhat isolated and i would have to deal with occasional comaptibility issues, even have to run parallels sometimes to get work done. I made that sacrifice because I think Apple is built better and is slicker in form and function. and initially felt they wore white hats and took better care of their customers. the last year I have had several small issues that degrade that view and now I feel they dangled an item many of us wanted and buried the lead...only 2011 and newer.

I have heard 2 or 3 different "reasons" but it staggers me that they can make it work, have had it working on iphones older than my macbook but cant figure a way to make it work on the macbooks older than 2011?

I see it as a failure. And of the millions who bought, as I look at this and other forums, I would say a lot are disappointed as this was the feature they bought it for, like me.

so we vent... you may cry because we criticized Apple... and we will spend more carefully in the future. And maybe Apple will listen and be more careful and or creative.

I am sure Apple can see how many pre 2011 systems bought ML, wonder if they dare to survey the satisfaction among that population.

and BTW...it is a good thing we vent like this. If we did not still like Apple and want them to succeed we would simply stop buying from them and switch vendors, go back to Windows and in some ways live easier lives.

Companies should value honest feedback because cricketts can often be followed by lost revenue when those quiet dissatisfied former customers go elswhere. companies need this kind of feedback

In that case, you are contradictng yourself. Why are you jeopardizing your business machine and workflow by installing a new OS hot off the press? If you have a desire to play with the latest and greatest, you should consider a separate Mac. It's not a VCR guy. Software doesn't work that way. You just can't 'turn it off and back on' and expect it to work...

it was in excellent order prior to ML. I expect the outlook issue to be a MS problem but the latest updates where supposed to be ML compatible. I have a different issue with iCloud mishandling mail as junk but fingers are pointing in all directions after talking with Apple, Verizon and Yahoo.

Adobe has been heavily tested but it appears some issue prevail. nothing definitive so far.

anyway...i am done with this... i have had my say

I have a back up you dolt. I am working around it. it does not remedy the fact of the disruption and the disappointment that the feature still is a NON-feature.

you are lost in the weeds thinking I should be thankful for the superb new os and not listening to the fact that it doesnt do what i bought it for and what it does do i have no need of nor was I motivted for. the rest is simply salt on the would, smaller issues that will resolve over time, same as they did in the Windows world. just thought i left those days behind.

enough
