Safari 6 tab width super wide

I like quite a few things about Safari 6 but the new window-width tabs are not one of them. I've looked in prefs for some way to customise them but didn't see anything. Anyone know a way to set them to the old fixed-width style?

nik, thanks for the suggestion. I usually use Ctrl+tab to move to the next tab or Ctrl+Shift+tab to move to the previous tab. Still my original question is not about navigation but more about the appearance and being able to see all the tabs in a smaller area of my screen. It's really uncomfortable to scan two, three or four tabs that stretch across my screen.

Thanks for the link.

Apple never seem to take any notice of anything that's said in these forums and I've never seen an official reply from any Apple employee, but maybe filling in that web form will get the issue in front of someone.

I've told them that tabs as implemented in Safari 6.0 are worthless and unworkable. Two tabs, half the window width each is just a joke. I hope it's a bug and not a deliberate decision...

I am suprised that Apple let this out the door. The usability is terrible, you can't find where to click the close box on the next tab, you can't use muscle memory to move to the next one, etc.... the worst is on a 27" monitor in full screen mode. Its utterly ridiculous.

I am hoping that this is a hidden preference setting and someone will figure out how to revert it back.

Some 'important' internal developer had the opinion he was clever and helping everyone out making something so cool as super wide tabs. I actually thought, 'wow this is cool' when i first saw them wondering why no one ever thought of such a great idea until I ACTUALLY TRIED USING THEM!

Please Mr. Clever Dev suck up your pride and default back to the way it should be working your cleverness into a checkbox somewhere in the preferences. While you are at it why not add a 'Close Tab' option to the right click menu from anywhere within the webpage itself.

By the way I love that a double touch of the magic mouse zooms into the page content the mouse is hovering over just like on the iphone. Pat yourself on the back for that one. It is a great feature for those of us with bad eyesight.

I found this when searching the community about what to do about this horrendous "feature" and it's working great

I installed Glims from (http://www.machangout.com) and on the left panel > General > Set "Other tabs improvements" to ON. In Left panel choose "Tabs misc." and tick "Set minimum tab label size to favicon size"

Seems to be working fine now. I'm disappointed that I had to install a 3rd party app to get there though
